My game keeps randomly crashing when I try to leave a planet. I don't know if this is part of the patch-related crashes, or if it's removing SecuROM and using the crack, but it's fairly consistent, if a tad random.

This has been happening since release.

Sound like you've gotten your game to the point where your getting the legitimate programming bugs that should be fixed through the normal patch cycle.

sigh

Well, that's good to know that removing SecuROM didn't cause that. YAY! I can keep it off my computer!

Just as a note: I can CAUSE this crash to happen by entering then exiting the atmosphere of a planet repeatedly. Usually, it causes the crash about the second or third time I exit the atmosphere...

Woooo! Thank you everyone who tested and posted such helpful instructions when EA was unwilling.

Just uninstalled SecuROM and I'm now downloading the crack. I haven't been able to play more than 10 minutes since that SPORE patch was released. Can't wait!

But I do have a question... I had the "Space is FUN" crack installed before all this--the one that cut down on attacks and disasters in Space Stage. Did the patch overwrite it? Did the patch actually fix the space age timings to something more playable? Will this crack uninstall my previous crack if it's still there? Compatibility issues?

I'll try to figure out what happened to it when I play. Just thought someone smarter than me might already know the answer to this.

the Moderators on GameFAQ's deleted my topic

I hate those morons....I really, really do. Apparently, on GFAQS, even MENTIONING no-cd cracks and ROMS and ISO's is grounds for topic/message deletion. Used to be that you can discuss whatever the hell you want as long you didn't post a link to or explicit directions on how to do anything illegal.

Meh, whatever. I'll just post a link to this topic

How exactly would one go about removing securom off of a Mac?
from my understanding, they had to wrap spore in one of codeweaver's Crossover game engines to port it to mac, so is everything we install on our macs basically in a 'bottle' ?
I cannot play the civ stage with my tribe as agressive... I get the exception error
I spent 80$ on the galactic version and again am regretting spending so much money on a game I looked forward to for so long and cannot even play *sigh*
just like age of conan, my daughter got it for me for my birthday, can't even play it (had a windows machine then) it didnt run properly from release and basically caused me to have to scrap my windows install and reformat and reinstall everything...
it really is a shame that world of warcraft is about the ONLY game that has a native mac version and runs nicely on Mac... altho LoTRO runs pretty well under Crossover Games...
anyway, enough ranting and whining
hope they fix this crap soon I just want to play my game

I'd be willing to bet that there's a way to remove it from Mac as well, though the file system in a Mac is completely different, and thus, I don't know how to help. I can check that page to see if they have Mac instructions

Nope, no instructions for Mac....sorry, man.

Found something for Macs:

http://securom.mustbedestroyed.org/phorum/viewtopic.php?f=8&p=863

Just read the guy's "conversation" with SecuROM support. Supposedly that fixed it and removed SecuROM from his computer.

Now, like I said, I don't know much about Macs, but if you install a cd-crack for version 1.01 after removing SecuROM, you should be good to go like the rest of us. Just remember to install the crack before you try starting the game after you remove SecuROM, otherwise it'll just install itself again. Oh, and never have the disc in the drive when you play, because that could probably just reinstall SecuROM.

I just had a thought... so, it is possible to go online with the cracked .exe - apparently, authentication servers and actual game servers are two separate, unconnected systems. So, does that mean that with a valid CD key, the cracked .exe could also be used to circumvent the 3 total installs thing?

Though as someone already said, it's strange that the thread hasn't been locked / deleted yet. And I suppose the minute someone in EA hears about this, they will put an army of developers on the issue and "correct" it within hours. So... have fun while it lasts people!

Looking at how fast they're able to fix our game issues, I say any correction (if at all) will take some time. So player-driven debugging, play on!

Hi PP. Not heard of this patch before but if it works my modifying the same sporeapp.exe then it definitely wouldn't work. If it's a series of changes to values in other files, as I suspect, then it may very well still work.

Give it a try using my instructions for removing secuROM earlier in the thread and let us know. It either will or wont so no harm in trying. (Although I'd backup your 'spore' folder first just in case).

I am aware of the Space is Fun MOD. It's a seperate package file located in the sporebin diretory and should be completely ignored by the official patch. The official patch have went some way to address the timing issues. I recommend removing that space is fun mod package file from the directory (Default C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\SPORE\Sporebin\) before patching, and test how you like the frequencies before you reinsert the mod.

Has anyone tryed this http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=analysis

I think my crashing problem could be ... Spore + DRM/SecureROM + Nero = Spore crash ..... It thinks i'm copying Spore ? just some ideas to try and fix this mess

Following those directions would be completely counterproductive. "Hey, put that disc in that ensures SecuROM is installed, then make an analysis file and send it to us so as to help us spy on you even more than SecuROM itself does"

Yeah, I don't think so. Just follow my instructions earlier in this topic or go to the seperate topic i created specifically for this. http://forum.spore.com/jforum/posts/list/7061.page

Oh, and just as a little hint, either get rid of Nero, or block it's internet access. Either way, I believe that SecuROM is part of Nero's installation as well.

Check out this thread if you want to know, like I do, what Will is thinking about Spore DRM, patch, gameplay.
