Hunh... I just applied the Mac patch and I had a few new problems in the space stage:

-On barren planets with "seas" on them, before it showed some sort of static-y texture. Now, it's just empty. As in I can see through the planet.
-It's just about impossible to see any creatures in Space mode, no matter how close to the surface I am, and regardless of my graphics settings.

Sad that this is my first post in this forum, but this is disconcerting... and besides, it took forever to find the forum in the first place. That patch also took forever to install.

...but is it wacky?

The Official Spore Patch - Only download this if you aren't going to get pissy about possible incompatibilities. I had no problems with it so reasonably speaking you shouldn't either.

Nice gesture, helping out those who might have had a hard time finding the direct download (as I did).

But as someone who has a perfectly decent machine which meets the explicit sysreqs on the product, and who also sought-out and downloaded the direct file you link to, and who's game was rendered completely unplayable due to massive graphical glitches, render lags, and audio screwyness after having worked perfectly before the patch, I take humble exception to your snide commentary.

Pardon my pissiness, reasonably speaking.

I am having the same problem. Hopefully it gets fixed soon. It's surprising that this would happen in the Mac version. There are so few pieces of hardware that need to be supported.

It sounds like you downloaded the wrong patch. There was a separate patch released for the CC, I think. Try again, and don't redownload the CC or uninstall anything.

A windows popup comes up and says "Windows has Encountered a Problem" and "Spore is shutting down" and a whole bunch of bullshit like that. So then i loose all of my progress, and have to try remember what i did and redo it.

I've been getting that too, before the patch it had only crashed once or twice (over about 20hours worth of play) but now it'll crash every half hour or so and that makes it quite unplayable . It usually happens when trying to leave a planet.

Hey, everybody posting and reading this thread. MaxisLucy did say they know about the problems due to this patch, and that they "ARE" working on fixes for it. So be patient and let them figure out what they screwed up.

And on a side note, guess I will jump back into X3 Reunion to get my space exploration fix until this issue is resolved.

OH, MAXIS, you may want to install an AUTOSAVE feature each time you finish a stage. I just had a crash and had just entered tribal stage. Well, stupidly I never saved and get to replay everything all over again.

I would also like to see an autosave feature. I would like to see it implemented:
When wiping out/befriending another nest
After making alterations and hatching
After progressing on the green bar
and just before going to the next evolution cycle

As it stands now, I am getting OCD about saving every 2 seconds because the game is so unstable.

One thing I did want to add. Since the patch it seems like sneak doesn't work like it should. About half the time I use it, other members of my group will become "invisible" and not me, or I will and they won't, or some of them will and some of them won't. I think that when I don't, the predators can see me. Really rough when a prey species can't hide!!

Using a Mac, I started my game and approved the patch for download and installation. This seemed to take a fairly long time (20+ minutes) at the end of the installation it claimed that "files had been altered" and that I should reattempt the patch installation process. By the third time this had happened I decided to skip patching the game and now it won't run at all. All that I get is the little rectangle popup that indicates the game is starting (I no longer receive the option to patch the game at startup) but it never gets past that point. The game also still identifies itself as Version 1.0.

I have had nothing but problems since installing the patch.

I have Windows XP, a proper registered copy of Spore, and beyond the minimum requirements to run the game.

Spore was running trouble-free up until I installed the patch. Then, all of a sudden, the game kept closing. Initially, it would take roughly 15 mins into a game (I'm on space stage), before the program would shut down without any warning. Then after a few instances of this, I would not even get as far as the startup screen before "Spore has encountered an Error" message would pop up.

I decided to uninstall the entire game & reinstall it without the patch, so effectively I'm back on v. 1.00, but for some reason, the same problems still persist. I've tried cleaning out the registry, reinstalling without EADM, and deleting the pollinator.package (someone suggested this on another forum) - While the issue when running the game has been resolved, the crash after 15 minutes has not.

At the moment, I feel that EA/Maxis has taken a perfectly good game that I have paid £35 for, and rendered it virtually unplayable. I am extremely disappointed that the patch is so badly implemented, and that EA seem to have done nothing to fix it - I am not the only person who has had the exact same experience, and it seems that my setup is not unique. Thousands of other Spore players seem to be suffering the same issues.

I would like to know if there is any official route I should take to either play a stable game with the patch implemented, or what steps I need to restore the game back to v. 1.00 with no residual patch updates that could be affecting my game.

I'd also like to know if EA/Maxis are doing anything about the problems with the patch, and when a new (and thoroughly tested & uninstallable) patch will be implemented to fix this sorry mess.

This is a technical problem that many have posted about in the forms here is what I have gathered in my own experience of the game. When I first installed the game I did not register to the server and played ‘off line’ during that time that game played flawlessly no slowdowns or command bottle necks and no object became invisible. When I registered for the spore server and did not get the patch immediately creators skins began not to load but I didn’t not play long enough to determine if there were command bottle necks. Upon patching the invisible creature glitch seemed to become worse and commend bottlenecks were very apparent. I have since uninstalled and reinstalled my game without applying the patch and although the previous problems are lessened they still occurred. I have been able to ‘hot’ solve these issues but simply entering the menu and changing one of the graphics setting then exiting. This solves the issue for the game visible area around my creature but entering a new area the problem does occurred again. I believe the problem is traceable to the online content which if you do not download the game works perfectly but connecting and downloading user creatures just once caused the error to occur. The ‘hot’ fix I have described works not only when you set an option up but down as well leading me to believe it is a simple load error within the game.

EDIT: I have just noticed that even saving your game loads the creatures texture
