Just because someone has different ideals than you gives you no reason to say that.

I seriously doubt people come here just to take creations. There's more of a variety in-game. Also, if they do, great for them. They ain't breaking any rules, guidelines, not the Terms of Service.

Nobody takes bloody ANYTHING off the SPORUM.

They may take them off the sporepedia, but that's part of the idea of SHARING.

Which is a major paradigm of the game that people must've missed because they were too busy watching for PROCEDURAL VERBS in 2005 spore -- and missed the whole "sharing " thing that DID make it into the game.

Yes, GAME.

How about this? If you don't want your creation 'stolen' then don't share them.

I understand about stealing intentionally, but what about Creature-Tweaker and stuff? It's not easy to find creations only made by YOU in Space. I understand you can put in the description why you have the creation and whatever (since it automatically shares...*sigh*) but, still, not everyone even looks at that. I've been told twice I was stealing because I innocently Tweaked a creature (not knowing it would share at all) even though, in the description, I wrote, in CAPS, "Tweaked in Space with Creature Tweaker."

Maxis doesn't do anything about stolen creations because they designed spore to be about sharing your work. If they didn't want people stealing, they wouldn't give you the option to edit others creations. Maxis will not do anything about it, period.

I suggest to not let it get to you. I have had things stolen, you have, and so have many other sporers. Be happy that someone likes your creation enough to steal it. Besides, it's just a game, you play the game to have fun, right? So don't stress yourself out about this.

Because I don't believe in people taking MY work and saving as THERE own to get more subs/comments/rates/getting on the MPN.

And Ash when did anyone say this wasnt a game. I share my creations so people can use them.

And if there games are already filled with them why do they put them under there own name?

I'm always online on Spore.. my creations dont automatically share.

It just goes through one ear and out the other. I'm done.

You just bragged about how nice and great and super you are for letting people take credit for your stuff, and don't see how that is a tiny bit, you know, self-righteous? Interesting.

I didn't go to the forum until I started that six month long break from the gameplay portion, which means I didn't go to the forum when I was plagiarizing. I was reasonable enough to recognize why it was wrong when comments pointed out what was going on (hell, I was uncomfortable with it when it was happening, just didn't know how to stop it), and I was not even in the community yet (this is at a time I had maybe one subscriber, ten comments, and no sporum posts), and I recognized that plagiarism is wrong. People outside of the sporum community aren't clueless, they are just doing their own thing outside of this portion of the community. I am reasonably sure they understand and can take their own position on the issue without the protection of sporumers, because we aren't some higher order of being.

So it boils down to this. If you are ok with people plagiarizing your stuff, fine, that's cool, you have your own style. If you are bothered with people plagiarizing your stuff, that's understandable, there isn't anything "Non-Chivalrous" or "Heartless" about it, just don't give attention to the plagiarizers. Also, if you plagiarize, that's your thing too and the law is on your side, just accept that you won't be popular, that is part of breaking social codes.

As Ashkelon pointed, "stealing" can happen accidentally most of the time. If someone purposefully claims a creations as their own and it isn't, and that creation becomes popular, it can be very frustrating for the creator.

Hopefully people will start paying more attention to the lineage of the creations, but all you can do right now is to be patient and keep creating (I even had an angry user accusing me of stealing from one of his friends, when in fact the friend had edited the creation and even acknowledged it was originally created by me on the description...)

While Maxis is tolerant with "theft", they try to reward originality on their features. Sometimes they make a mistake, sure, but they'll always correct it if a user points it out, giving the star to the true creator.
