Its a Flash of the most energic type of light, The are commonly linked with supernovas but can also come from seemingly empty space, They can last for a few seconds or less to several minutes. Often they are followed by an slight after glow. Also They are very deadly or could be if say a gamma burst happened withing 1000 lightyears of earth.

Gamma rays are not light - they're electromagnetic radiation, and are on the spectrum as the shortest wavelength. Light is also electromagnetic radiation, as are x-rays and microwaves and pretty much any other kind of radiation. So, light is not gamma, but light is electromagnetic.

All photon based radiation is electromagnetic.
