ok... i´ve mentioned this in a thread in the general forum but i feel it should be properly posted

a viable way to resolve the problem in the relation of creature parts and ability stats

instead of each part gives you a certain stat for an ability, having that part placed simply ENABLES that ability at it´s minimum level... in a way that no part offers eny advantage over any other

then, one could proceed into building up those abilities by investing pure DNA points on them, as in buying upgrades

this approach brings the best of both worlds, as we could build our creatures exactly how we want them to look, and still we need to gather DNA in order to evolve

and maybe, just maybe... we could get some functionality to parts such as eyes and ears...

I agree, this is how it really should have been with the creature and tribal stuff.

Got my vote but I think this has basically been suggested before. However you put it in more simplier terms. This thread started with the same basic idea:

http://forum.spore.com/jforum/posts/list/4128.page

My converstation with my homeworld:
"Hello space command."
"Yes?"
"I think maybe you should start employing some more captains now that I have expanded our empire to 100 star systems."
"Ahahahah. You're kidding, right? We will build only one ship to defend our people at a time. That is all. You fail."
"Doesn't matter that you can clone me and build a new ship in a matter of seconds?"
"No! Now go away!" *Click*
"Well fine. I'll go back micromanaging my colonies. And see if I don't!"

yeah.. i guess that is a similar thread... it only goes to show how many people would care for such a change....

plus! such a change effectively enables flying creatures of many sorts... give ´em a pair of wing of your choice, then invest some into making sure your critter know how to use them...

also... i think that at the first time you place a part, unlocking an ability, the part should cost more than if you place it again....

or maybe... having more of the same part decreases the amount of DNA needed for the upgrade, giving you a few different paths to build up you creature, as in "make more or make better"

i forgot to say...

i´d also like to see the ability to invest in ease of reproduction or pack size... so if i don´t feel like making a strong creature, i can make a lot of weak ones... and if one dies, i can switch to another pack member of the same species
it´s survival by numbers

I think this would improve the game dramatically. Plus it would let us use the parts that look the best on our creature. At the moment I making creatures with feet that don't match simply to give them high sneak, jump, and walking speed. This new way is much smarter.

What about initial part cost?

Can you lay out a prototype for your example with some specifics in place?

the initial part cost should be much lower.

an example is all parts cost the same as the stage one parts. The cost for upgrading the part to level two would be the difference between the level 1 part (which you bought) and the level 2 part 75-25 = 50. This way the cost is the same. Upgrading to level 3 is 150 (cost of level 3 parts) - 25 = 125 to upgrade to level 3, and so on.
