it happens all the time, its nothing new. people have done that to creations on the MPN, or ones that got featured. your complaint is not a very uncommen one.

I'm the thread whitemage, Pm me. and I'll bring your thread back from the brink of death.
(side note, I can not necro. that is one level to high for me)

It's probably happened to at least once to everyone... Or it will happen once in the future.

So far as I know I haven't had a creation of mine "stolen". Although it's bound to happen in the near future seeing as how am bringing in more subscribers than I have in the past (recently just shot up from 15/16 to 21, which is an achievement for me).

chances are, no. it doesn't matter though. I was giving more prminent examples. plenty of people will go through your things, and just steal them. some people do it just to make others angry. odn't let it bother you, as they didn't do anything wrong after all. spore is ment to be about "sharing" if you don't want anyone to copy it, don't share it.

Be really careful throwing around the concept "stolen".

Most people who play Spore NEVER come to the Sporum. They don't know you exist.

They come home from school, eat dinner and play with Spore, and when they do, the planet they play on is magically filled with downloaded creatures and things.

To them there is no difference between something made by another player, and something made by Maxis.

Stuff shows up. So they look in their game sporepedia, and they find things they liike, they open them and save them -- and if they are on line -- the game republishes them. They don't know it happens.

And they wouldn't think it was wrong anyway. They bought this game, not as a fashion designer show, but as a kit to build alien worlds with "stuff" that comes from other players.

Nowhere on the "box" does it say "ask for permission". So why anyone thinks that they should "know" to do so is beyond me.

Since the lineage was openly exposed (it's always been there) there is a way to see who originated a CREATION. Its a little harder to see who came up with an IDEA, but that's another story...

Quit griping about people using the game EXACTLY AS IT WAS SOLD AND INTENDED.

If you don't like it, hop on over to feedback and ask for the next expansion "SPORE FASHIONISTA".

Ashkelon is so crazy in love she could care less what ya'll are up to these days. Yeah. Sweet.

Stolen isn't the proper term, as it suggests loss of something. Plagiarism is the technical term.

Yeh, plagiarism happens a lot, sometimes it is people using it in their games and it being accidently uploaded, sometimes it is them making changes (name) and then uploading, and often it is for the purpose of getting praise or attention for it.

Like ash said though, lineage pretty much forces a player to acknowledge the true creator. Plagiarism is a bit of an outdated problem in the terms of being an actual problem.

Yes plagarism is a problem. It is even worse that Maxis hasn't used it. There was one featured plagarized adventure (I think it was that Star Slide one everyone copied) and it was done after the lineage was put in. Epic fail Maxis.

Please check out my creations. I will attempt to comment back at some point or another. Real life and all. If I haven't returned the comment please remind me.

Plagiarism isn't the proper term either. Plagiarism is specific to literary work and it still requires direct intent.

Such intent has rarely surfaced Spore, in those extremely rare cases where we have seen someone blatantly push a creation they did not make with the goal being to have it top the MPN or get featured. The lineage API and then the open lineage on the 'pedia card have utterly eliminated that problem.

edit: Yes, Maxis has failed to utilize their own lineage tools in selecting features. Nothing new there, it has happened many times. There was a point where multiple times they featured what were edits of their own buggy. All one can do is pm a SM that an original creation was not featured and they'll let Maxis know so the proper feature can be awarded. Then just shake your head and go on with life.

I wish I had people stealing my creations. At least then they would be noticing me.

Not entirely. I think downloading .pngs doesn't carry lineage. So if we had someone real intent on stealing creations and doing it on purpose, the person would have a way to do so.

What are you getting at here? Without uploading them again to the Sporepedia, which will show lineage, as it is embedded data in the png, and then blatantly pushing it as their own creation, there is no intent.

i wish things were like when you make a forged map in Halo 3, where you have to make the "Hammer and Anvil" agreement, basically saying that once someone gets there hands on your map, they can do whatever they want with it.....they need something like that for spore
