I have seen a large number of creations with a metalic reflectiveness to them, and am unsure as to which texture i would use to do that. The solid color shiny texture is more glossy than metalic, so i'm pretty sure it's not that. I don't care if it actually shows up on my computer, i just want to know which textures to use. Kthnxbai.

It's High Graphics If you have higher/better graphics, you get improved textures, colours and bump mapping.

i think you need a high graphics card to get textures like that....not sure though

So basically we have to create while using high graphics?

Do you like mudkips? If so, use this sig.

Some textures are "shiny" by default, but you need a good video card to be able to see it. Also check if your graphic settings are on "high".

Also, i've found that if you can't do that then giving your creation a medium-dark base, then the overcoat under coat in a lighter shade gives it a 'shiny' look.

One thing to be aware of....

I have a variety of machines I use to run Spore.

If you set the texture detail and player model quailty higher, you will see more reflectivity, but only on machines where the graphics card can support it.

If you set these on high, and the machine's graphics card can't support it, instead of shine you get large black, blue or green blotches.

This affects not just the vitreous high shines, and metallics, but also satin textures as well.

I have one machine that has an unsupported graphics card, and it still runs spore, but I do have to keep the texture detail and player model quality on low to avoid the large patches of solid colors.

One thing you can do is set those settings high when you make and save your creations, that will make sure what gets saved, and what is there to send to the server is high quality, but then set them back down.

You'll find you have more control in the editors, even with a lower end card, than you will later in the game.

Ashkelon is so crazy in love she could care less what ya'll are up to these days. Yeah. Sweet.

I think it depends on the card's capability. On my very good NVIDIA cards, setting them down on low will produce anomalies like the blue blotches. There is also a relationship between the lighting and the texture and player model quality. That's why it's hard to give and easy answer like "set them all high" or set them all low.

My unsupported card is a dual intel graphics processor. I absolutely must put the texture and player model quality on low on this machine, but I can bump the lighting and shadows up to medium. The planet is on high, with depth of field on medium....

THe only way you know what to do is set everything on high, or low and play with them one by one and in pairs, until you are satisfied with what works best on your machine.

What I wanted the guy to understand is that just "setting everything to high" is not automatically going to give him shine, it may very well lead to mostly or entirely blue or black creatures.

Mouthwash and I played with settings on evening on my machines until we found what worked.

It's not exact, and even then, there are other programming issues. You have to play and find what you are willing to trade off. I'll keep the flatter textures and do without the blots. I've run spore on 9 machines at different times here. Two of the netbooks are supposed to be the same, but they were built with different video busses, and one will lag if you don't have everything but planet quality on low...

I see.

Thanks for explaining.
