Aniway, this topic is about the in-game Grox. It's just also about theories that could explain why they do evil stuff or why they have such bad reputations. Also, I strongly recomend that non-Grox-fans should get off this topic, or wrisk it getting locked.

Don't attempt to oust people for having a different opinion. Abusing or denying the forum's free speech (within reason) policies will result in pretty much the same thing.

And I have to differ with you - if its about the ingame Grox, what's with all these wild theories? There's no Xorg ingame or any kind of story revolving around the Grox other than them being a bunch of jerks. Surely wild theorising isn't on-topic?

I'm still waiting to complete an archetype other than shaman before I try an allegiance with the Grox. From recent posts, I'm thinking to try for Bard. I've wanted to play as a bard anyway, but my natural inclinations all seem to lead me down the road to Shaman.

I've also heard diplomat works well.

I'd like an archetype choice that allows me to function in the rest of space once the furor over the initial alliance dies down.

Suggestions?

You could try getting to be close friends with the Grox and at the same time do so with a Zealot empire. Get the Grox ally points to be around 80/90 or however high you need it to be and complete a change archetype mission. Once you are a Zealot, clear out a sort of buffer around your colonies with Fanatical Frenzy so there are empty planets all around yours. To help recharge it just save and exit and reload to have it back at full power. Once you have a free space and all your new enemies are gone, ally with the Grox and you should be fine.

Well, they don't really have to go, since it is a free country after all They can say what they want to, but we will just know that we are right.

Yeah! Aniway, theories about the Grox (the Xorg, them being silicon based, etc.) are about the in-game Grox so it is, technicaly, on topic. Also, we're not saying that that's how Maxis intended it, we're just making up theories!

If this was in RP or if they had a fanfic section, it wouldn't even be challenged, and you could run theories about whatever you designed or drew on your experience for.

I kind of see the point of the people who want to force the thread to be about the in-game grox as Maxis designed them only. But the thread has actually been more about MagmaGroudon's varient on the grox, their characters and mythos.

I support having a place to imaginatively buy into that mythos of the Grox and to play with it.

I use the game in imaginative ways and imaginative play. I have whole civilizations and things I've written about them and would love to include others. I'm just not sure where is the appropriate forum section.

So as far as I'm concerned, I think the thread is ok here, and don't mind discussion of the Grox Mythos or cycle or Epic or whatever.

Maybe the thread title should change, so there wouldn't be a question that other people's mythos and cycles about he Grox are allowed and encouraged, or perhaps that this one is about the particular version that Magma has.

Which, incidentally I think is pretty innovative and deep.


@CrazyShyness :: I copied down your strategy. I'm collecting them to see which archetypes' plan I'm most comfortable with, given that it's very easy for me to create Shamans.

I would like to choose an archetype that's not too far off from that, for ease of creation, but that may not be the best way to go. I started a new creature with the intent that I could test out bards or diplomats.

I have mostly been browsing the strategy section and will probably post a collection of ideas when I'm done. I will post that in Strategy.

I am really internally uncomfortable with zealots, too many of them in RL!
