DOWNLOAD VIDEO OF THE BUG
(188.83 MB, ZIP file containing a 16-minute AVI video)

This is a website problem, not an in-game problem.

I've tested this using fresh builds (no add-ons) of the latest versions 8 major browsers. I've tested on XP Pro and Vista Basic. I've tested on multiple machines. Same result:

The sporecast scrollbar on the Sporepedia page fails to appear unless I collapse the Buddy list early during the page load.

It's been roughly a day now since I posted my problem, so I don't feel guilty bumping this thread.

Could this possibly have something to do with the number of sporecasts I maintain? I haven't seen the scrollbar at all since July 29, and even then I had fits getting it to show up.

Hey schnautzr, my old friend.

I have forwarded this issue to Maxis and will keep you updated.

Thanks, SMDog. I feel weird not calling you Primadog. I have a workaround at the moment, but it's not much of one.

First, I open the page with all of my sporecasts in the Sporepedia using the link on my profile. Then, I navigate until I find that sporecast and update the keywords in that sporecast. This bumps that sporecast to the top of my list.

Once the sporecast has been bumped to the top, I can add the desired creation to that sporecast. Unfortunately, this is HIGHLY time-consuming. It's taken a good fifteen minutes just to sporecast about six creations so far.

Right now I'm trying to phase out my Sea Monsters sporecast, which has nearly 600 creations. I'm trying to add about half of these creations to my three sporecast collections, so the sooner this is fixed, the sooner I will be very happy.

I appreciate anyone taking the time to work on this.

I've been having similar problems as well. When I click a (sporum) link to a sporecast, the subscribe button does not show. The only way to make it do is to reclick the click, that will refresh the page and make it appear (a simple F5 does not work).

I have an reply from MaxisCactus!

The team is aware of the issue and currently working on it. Meanwhile, try it using Internet Explorer might make a difference.

Thanks, SMDog and MaxisCactus.

I have run a few tests, and have not been able to view the sporecast scrollbar in any of the following browsers:

Firefox 3.0.12
Safari 4.0.2 (530.19.1)
Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18813CO
Flock 2.0.3
Netscape 9.0.0.6
SeaMonkey 1.1.16
Chrome 2.0.172.39
Opera 9.64

I'm currently updating SeaMonkey to version 1.1.17, but I don't think that will make much difference.

Edit: Upgrading SeaMonkey did not improve anything.

IE7 doesn't work either (I use Chrome normally).

Can you force a full browser refresh using Ctrl + F5 (in Firefox), and verify that your browser cache has been cleared? We suspect this may be related to a caching issue.

Let me know if that fixes your issue.

Upgraded to from Firefox 3.0.12 to Firefox 3.5.2, loaded the Sporepedia, and found no sporecast scrollbar.
Cleared the page's cache using CTRL+SHIFT+R, still no scrollbar.
Cleared the entire browser cache using CTRL+F5, still no scrollbar.

Thanks for staying on top of this. I look forward to the solution.

Do you have any browser plugins or add ons that you can try turning off for us?

I disabled every single add-on, plug-in, or skin in Firefox and am running in safe mode with the default options. Still the same result. Also, the other browsers I used were all fresh installations with no add-ons, plug-ins, skins or customizations.

I have a feeling it has to do with the number of sporecasts I manage. I'll try logging in from another computer tomorrow. That will help identify whether this is a computer-specific problem. Here are my computer's specs, not sure how many of them are likely relevant:

3.0GHz P4 HT processor
1.5GB RAM
160GB HDD
ATI Radeon Xpress 200 VGA
10/100Mbps Ethernet LAN
Vista SP2 with all Microsoft Updates

Schnautzr, thanks for the update. I'm curious as to whether this happens if you switch to an alternative persona as well. That would give us a more clear idea if its related to your creation/sporecast/buddy count.

Perhaps we can find a volunteer to create some dummy sporecasts and see if they have the same issue?

I do know that I have over 100 sporecasts (last I checked), and all together, my sporecasts total several thousand creations. I may easily have found the maximum point that the website can sustain.

I have 0 buddies, and 96 people have buddied me. I am subscribed to 0 sporecasts and have 213 creations uploaded currently. I have 0 alternate accounts-- this is the only login I use at all, and no one else uses this computer.
