Anyone got the actual file and can upload it with like some free file shares?

Have you tried the original one on page 17? That one seems to work while the others always seem to give people problems.

It should be placed in your spore folder as per this tutorial:

I'm having the same problem, and I've tried every link on this thread. I either get a bunch of symbols, or the 404 error.

Goodness! After half a year they finally owned up and admitted a major blunder that hasn't been found in testing! To me, that has renewed my faith in the future of Spore.

Last night, I was both at Maxis' and EA's offices.

Cactus was swishing around there on a board with little wheels he had borrowed from Will Wright. He popped into a PR relations office at EA, saying to a suit that was sitting behind the desk, "Look, we really have to do something about this issue. Some people are making legitimate complaints, and they don't go away as usual just because we ignore them for a long time."

The suit look up from some papers with stockmarket figures and said, "Goodness gracious!!! Have we ignored complaints for a long time? That won't do at all!!! How many people have complained?"

"A couple of dozen of people on the boards," said Cactus, slightly flustered.

"WUDD?" said the suit. "I thought we were talking about some hundreds of thousands! Not a handful of notorious troublemakers."

"They're actually not notorious troublemakers, sir," said Cactus, "they're very old and loyal customers who have found a serious flaw in the game, and all they want is for one of our developers to take 10 minutes to correct a number so the game works."

"But you said they were just a few dozens!" exploded the suit. "If they ask us to spend the wage for 10 minutes on something so ridiculous as a serious complaint, just hand them the LOBOTOMY philosophy, man! We're not running a charity here, we're running a business. We only address problems if they threaten to give us wide-spread negative publicity. Now, GET OUTTA MY OFFICE, I have to go get a cappucino."

Cactus got out of the office, but he wasn't quite satisfied. So, he said to himself, "That's really not good enough. We have to be decent to these people who were the ones to make MAXIS games a success in the first place. I guess I'll spin back over to Maxis who always had more focus on the quality of the games than the money people at EA."

Of course, I don't think he would have been talking out loud if he knew I was listening. He just thought he was talking to himself.

None the less, he headed for Maxis' offices and arrived just in time for a meeting about the GALAXY expansion.

He was a bit breathless, for which we must excuse the poor man, because it was quite a distance for the 2.7 minutes he had to get there. He came in and said, "Folks! We really have to do something about this unachievalbe badge that's in the game. It really isn't wholesome."

Will Wright wasn't heading the meeting. As the head developer of the project, he's job was over, and he was busy contemplating his next project. He did look up from the PHARAOH game running on his laptop, however, to say, "Oh, there's a bug??? How bad. Deal with it." And he went back to research how pomegranates grow in PHARAOH, for the benefit of the next project.

Blandman Obbleton, who was heading the meeting, told Cactus to sit down and wait his turn. There was an agenda which had to be followed.

"First things first," Obbleton admonished Cactus. "We have a deadline for the GALAXY expansion."

Several heads around the table turned to look disapprovingly at Cactus. He sat down, whispering to himself, "Okay, I'll wait until it's on the agenda." He still didn't know if was listening.

Cactus is a very patient man, mind you, so he just sat there and waited until they had gone through all the agendums on the agenda. The issue didn't come up, though. Not because Maxis staff doesn't care, mind you, quite on the contrary. They were just caring so much about tasks already assigned to them that they didn't have time to think about such a detail as their flagship currently in sales doesn't work.

So, when the meeting was almost over, and they had reached the final agendum entitled "Miscellaneous", Cactus thought it was time to try again.

"We have a serious problem with SPORE," he said. "The ultimate goal, the badge that we put in there just to keep people going, is actually unachievable."

"WUDD?" cried Blandman Obbleton. "Why hasn't anybody told me this before? THIS CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION! However, the time is up, and I have to get my children from kindergarten. Put it on the agenda for next meeting. It can fit in with the purchase of our new cappucino machine. Meeting's adjourned."

Cactus, although he's a very patient man at heart, got just a tiny bit fraction of a weeny bit morsel impetulant, and shouted, "But what am I going to tell those people?"

Will Wright, shutting down his laptop, said, "Well, tell them we're working on it. By the way, do you know what fascinating things pomegranates are? Unlike apples, they have seeds all over in their... hey! Don't walk out on me Cactus! You haven't heard all the fascinating facts about pomegranates yet!"

Then I woke up, bathed in sweat. Thank Spode! It was all just a dream. I wen't to get some orange juice and make coffee. It was quite early. I'm not used to waking up this early by myself. My hands were still trembling as I poured water into the coffee machine. "It's all right," I told myself. "They'll fix this issue. They really care about long-time players. They're not just after the money and the PR. They care! THEY CARE!"

And I took my orange juice and went to my computer to play SPORE.

Because it's bad publicty to admit an error.

Errrmm... You know it's been fixed already, don't you? Took ages, but it's been solved through an official mod.
Change it for muddy textures, or another glitch/bug and the "he" for a "she", and you got a nice tale...

It's been fixed, more or less. More less than more. I'm just amazed how EA/Maxis will always get away with blatant, insulting disregard of their core customers.

As I hinted in my Novel above, the clue is that, once they find the flaws, they've already coughed up the money. So let's get on to the next expansion pack, or whatever, to squezze them for whatever lemon juice that's left in them.

[EDIT:] By the way, saying that it's been fixed is REALLY pushing the limits. I can understand from several posts on the boards that there's an "official" mod somewhere. However, it doesn't appear on any help page, FAQ or anything published to a broader audience... it's hidden inside this thread, very deep down.

That's not publishing a solution to a major bug, to my mind. That's plain hiding it from public scrutiny to avoid bad PR.

I guess that's supposed to mean that Cactus is a "she" rahter than a "he"? Fat difference.
