I noticed that there are a massive amount of adventures that can be completed in under a minute. These are usually a puzzle, maze or just "cheap" adventure. Most Clark and Stanley adventures would fall under this rule as well.

Lately, Spore has downloading really long adventures. Missions that take over fifteen minutes to beat. What surprised me is that some of these have received many plays. So some people must enjoy them.

My question to you is what is your "perfect length" for adventures? Is there such a thing as too short or too long if the adventure is well made?

I think an adventure is only as good as how fun it is. If it was 30 seconds of pure fun or 15 minutes of excellence, I don't think it matters. Quality over quantity (of time that is).

I voted for 6 to 10 minutes, but there are generally exceptions to the rule. As long as it's fun, and as long as a certain level of maturity as been put into it the crafting of it, I'll probably enjoy it a lot.

good question - for the amount of time some of them take to load, I'd like to see a little longer play (between 6 and 10 mins) - for those adventures that give more points (and aren't ones that can't be won) - I think it is okay for them to be longer - for those that don't have a lot of points, they should be shorter (not that anything can be done about it ahead of time) - I would also imagine it also depends on the skill level of the player - the more skilled players can probably breeze through one in two minutes that would take a less skilled player (like myself) 15 minutes (before I die - LOL - I'm one who is helping those point values go up because I keep dying)

10 minutes is the reasonable max, I personally lean towards 30 minutes, however unrealistic.

Yeah, 30 minutes is a bit excessive. Even if it's a very well crafted/plot driven mission. There might be one minor glitch or some kind of problem at the 29 minute mark, you fail, and then there's no chance you're playing it over again.

6-10 minutes would be good
however when i say this i mean closer to 10 than 6

i really cant stand "cheap" adventures

Well, twice now I have found myself frustrated by the 8 act limit. I was sort of hoping to do larger things. Hell, if I could re create Myst as a a Spore adventure I would. It would be really cool to be able to do something elaborate enough to make the user forget he was playing Spore.

6-10

cause missisons over that are just rediculous, and missions under 5 minutes are too easy. but we can't do anything about that. its up to the creator

I'd say it's more about quality than time it takes.
*I have a few in mind that would have a 30min timer before you and the planet you are trying to save get sent on a one way trip to the afterlife.

i agree with you on that. but most of the other players don't like missions that take forever to complete. they like it short and sweet. hence why Clark and Stanley became such a hit

I like challenging long adventures... but it sucks that you can't even go past eight acts, seriously i want 15 acts at least.

I think you can make good mission under 5 minutes, but that's not usual.

The OP did not make clear if those time ranges were the AVERAGE or the BEST time for an adventure. Which?

I like an adventure where you have to explore a bit, not have every goal close by or easy to find. So, it's important to have many interesting (and misleading) extra props as scenery. Obviously, I can spend 10 minutes playing that way. Others might zip thru and complete it in 2-3 minutes however.

But, no -- if I see that an adventure's best time is over 10 minutes, I'm not going to invest my 20-30 minutes (or more) at it. And maybe die several times and have to replay that long thing? Yuck, not my idea of fun.
