Based on Sporenament, Spore Tournament requires no installation. All you need is a web browser that supports JavaScript and cookies.

http://llamaslayers.net/spore/tournament/ - Log in with a non-registered name to register it.

You can now save tournament results if you are logged in. You will be given one point for each creation you put in the top two, and the creations will get one or two points depending on their placement in the tournament. Each user can only award up to two points per creation.

There is now a scoreboard, a help page and a few anti-hacking features to prevent votes on creations that were not given as random creations.

There are now user pages. They include your total score as well as where your 42 latest points came from.

There is now a user list which works the same way as the scoreboard.

You can now change your password and make a link to your Spore.com account at http://llamaslayers.net/spore/tournament/settings.

July 6th: I've uploaded the files for tournament levels, but I haven't done extensive testing. If you see anything broken or any stats that are incorrect, etc., please don't hesitate to tell me!

July 7th: Spore Tournament now stores pages like /stats and /scoreboard in its memory for up to 2.5 minutes before regenerating them. This should save some time and processor power when loading those pages and will help even more as time goes on. This only affects generated pages that are viewed directly. The random script is not affected, nor are any of the user-specific functions. Update: The server will now send the stored version of a page if it is out of date while it generates a new version.

July 8th: You can now add creations you made by going to http://llamaslayers.net/spore/tournament/import. Each creation imported costs 5 points and will receive 2 points. A minimum of 50 points is required to import anything.

July 9th: You can now see how many points each person gave to each creation by clicking on its picture or name on the scoreboard.

July 13th: Points will now restore at a rate of 1 per day.

a limit on type (creature, building, spaceship, etc.) would really help. I found on sporenament doing that improved the quality of the final contestants a lot. IE: It's sorta hard to compare a building to a creature

i can't wait to see how you expand upon this. I can't wait to try level 2, 3, etc. (i never did with sporenament, got crashes , only played round 1's).

Also need to see how many points i got total, a way to see your own creatures. etc. etc. but great start

Anything i can do to help let me know.

Question: Can i quit mid-round. i had a few rounds where i got nothing but really bad creatures, SO i just closed page and tried again. will this hurt anything?

Yes. I'll add a link to make it easier.

Zengrath wrote:Good job so far. I noticed once already i wasn't able to select 1 of the 2 final contestants.. I couldn't select the 1 on the right, clicking did nothing, i ended up selecting left one, but that's not what i wanted to win :/.

There was a glitch where one of the semifinal positions were covering up most of the second final contestant. I've fixed that.

I've added the ability to select the types at the beginning of each tournament.

Wow, another glitch? I've fixed your profile file. For some reason, it put your password hash on the same line as your first winning creation. The bug has been fixed.

Thanks! I keep doing creature only, getting some nice winning ones. can't wait to see level 2, and 3

Are you going to do a level 2 and 3 like spornament or do you have other plans?

EDIT: Odd. the random feed is still showing sooo many repeats, I see same buildings or creatuers, or whatever category i choose, i keep seeing exact same objects a lot.. some i've seen up to 4 times now. and i haven't played that many times.

I hope they can get the random feed to be more random.

Wow - I can't believe how fast you created that NightGunner! Amazing job. I'm sure you're still working on it but I suppose the next thing I'd love to see is a way to browse the creations by point value. It'd be nice to see the results of everyone's choices. You should be sure to let MaxisCactus know about it (I'll probably tell her too) so she can put it on the app showcase page and hopefully get more traffic to it once it's ready. One minor thing that should probably be made more clear on the website is that you shouldn't try logging in with your spore.com account, it's a completely separate website/account. Also would be more clear if there was a "Don't have an account? Make a new one" link.

I'm so impressed that you built it basically over the course of two days And there's all kinds of nice animation in there too. Great to see what people make with the API. Hopefully after the craziness from the GA launch dies down, some more time from the web team will be devoted to making some API improvements.

Keep us posted!!

I've added more clear wording on how to log in/create an account. I've also made a scoreboard at http://llamaslayers.net/spore/tournament/scoreboard which will allow anyone to view any creation with any points (Higher points first). MaxisCactus's Sporescope is in third place!

Behind the scenes, I've made a 16/17 chance of getting one creation that has points appearing in a tournament. If I didn't do that, I'd probably have thousands of creations with one or two points.

Remember: its' cool so far, but the best thing that sporenament would have been about was playing enough level 1's and 2's to see the level 3 creatures! and being able to see some really cool creatures to compare with and have nice stuff to download that people would have normally missed, this was the most exciting thing about spornament, and i was disappointing when i found out they he was not really developing it anymore, and all i ever got was level 1 :/.

But if you got a totally different plan, that's ok, i look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Right now it's cool, but it's only 1 level, and always random stuff, i want to see battles of winners of level 1, and then level 2 and stuff like that, that's where i think it would really take off!!

Also here is an idea to help keep server costs down and space down.

How about having some sort of ques and maximum for each level.

say no more then 500 creatures that have won level 1. But in order to determine which ones get deleted, have some sorta of "age" or "date downloaded/created" on each one, then have server automatically delete the absolute oldest ones.

This would be awesome as it would allow the best ones to move forward, since they will have plenty of time before being the "500th" oldest one, and the oldest ones to get deleted since they obviously wasn't good enough to make it anyway.

Then you could do same for level 2's, those who win level 2's have maximum of say 250 creatures that can be level 2.

This would help keep server load down i think, at same time increasing quality of creatures over time!!!

(you may have to put a maximum on each category or something so that eventually you don't' end up with 95% creatures and 5% buildings, spaceships, etc.)

Also of course the final tier, say level 3 or 4 or whatever not have a maximum limit, or devise some other way of "eliminating" any over a certain limit, since the first ones to win would get deleted first which may be unfair... Or could try eliminating ones with least points, but then this would be a problem since.. eventually you would end up with tons of awesome ones, but give no chance of new ones to have a chance.

Or .. just have 4 or 5 tiers, and make it costs a lot of points in order to select very last tier winners so that you wouldn't' really have that problem of having too many high level creatures for a very long time, then put the "delete oldest ones first" thing on last tier with like a 500 creature limit in each category, that way, you'll still have great awesome creatures, and it would take a long time for 1 creature to get deleted, but would help keep things fresh!! and not see same creatures there all the time at some point in future.

Trust me, i thought about this a lot at work. And why right now i sooooooooooooo wish i had programming skills... i would love to be able to get my take on this. Of course your improving yours so fast, I'm sure you'll come up with some cool stuff

EDIT: I hope you aren't going to kill me for making you read all this stuff. I'm just really excited about it's potential and don't want to see it goto waste!!!

Also the cool thing about multiple levels is... say you keep each "tier" battles at 16 creatures in each tier, instead of making tier 2 with 8 creatuers and tier 3 with 4. etc.

A creature fighting in Tier 2 will be better then 16 other creatures.

a creature fighting in tier 3 will be better then 256 other creatures.

4 better then 4,096 other creatures.

5 better then 65,536 other creatures!! (is my math wrong? i thought would be more then that )
