Sadly, Maxis has been outdone by dozens and dozens of creators who put labor into their creations. And really to be honest, it doesn't look like Maxis creators put any real thought into their creations at all. Just slapped them together from random parts. I hope they are not proud of their work because I, for one, am not. We should have the ability to comment on Maxis Creations as no one, including Maxis, is perfect. It may be argued that Maxis to afraid to face criticism because they are well aware of the mediocrity of many of their creations.

Perhaps a more helpful suggestion would be that Maxis release a patch which allows you to delete their creations PROVIDED you have enough other creations downloaded that fit the specs / stats those creatures take up. I mean, you can't just go and ban Maxis creations from the beginning for instance, especially if you're not connected to the internet through the game. The original creations in the game are clearly set up so that you get easy nests near your early nest, and progressively harder to deal with (read: more complex) creatures as you go along to your second and third nests. The game can obviously select the right level creature from others' creations as well, since I have seen plenty of others' creations in my games. I know that they're trying to make sure that you don't break your game by deleting the original creations, or make it unnecessarily hard on yourself, but it COULD simply be written in a manner, where it will allow you to ban Maxis creations IF and ONLY IF you have the right level and number of creatures to take up that stat. It would be quite nice. In the meantime, a good thing to do is flood your game with a wide variety of creatures you like, which have a variety of statistics. Like, don't just download all the really cool creatures which are practically on the verge of evolving to the tribal stage. Find some nice ones for earlier on. The more varied content you download and create, the less Maxis creations show up. None of my space races are Maxis created at all so far, with the exception of the Grox.

I doubt this thread will go anywhere, but it's work a try.

*sigh* You CAN'T comment on Maxis creations because they're not LIVE creations. They're installed with the game. You don't download them. Of any user created creation in the game, only a FRACTION of a percent of the people who play Spore actually have the same thing. But imagine if every single person playing Spore was tapping the servers for the same list of comments, and posting their own. It would be insanity. PURE INSANITY.

Some Maxis employees do have their own Sporecasts, though. Look them up, download and comment on their creations freely.

Ned, to put it simply, the creatures the OP seems to be talking about are the default creatures that install with the game. These are different from creatures created by Maxis and distributed via Sporepedia, as they are treated the same as any other user-created content, complete with comments and all.

If that's not what you're referring to, then feel free to be more specific, and I'll address the concern.

In all honesty, I would've loved it if those creatures were included in the sporepedia included the Maxis creatures, along with the information on who their creator was, etc.

There are some that are stylistically similar, and there are some I like very much. I would love to leave comments on them.

There is no reason that the creatures which came with the game could not also be included in the database. That would be dead easy from a database and/or programming standpoint.

With around 35 years of programming experience, the last 15 of it on web-based applications, webservices and relational databases, I DO know what I'm talking about.
