I agree with everything they said, even though I would give the game a higher score. They have to give it a fair score, since people depend on their opinions. I however don't have to care what other people think so I can easily say that Spore: Galactic Adventures is one of the best games I have played in a long time, and if not for the lack of a save/checkpoint feature, it would be perfect.

Positive? Really?

Well, I guess those ARE the top review mediums out there. But if it is a review coverage it would be fair to throw a few negative ones, so we know where the faults are and if they can be worked around in game...

Glitchy and Broken, The first adventure I was given after the primary starter mission I was unable to finish because my creature was unable to jump and there was a hill in the way. Second mission, my creature got stuck in a crevice that was placed for some reason completely around the starting point and the only way I could get past it was by using a creature that could fly, third mission my creature repeatedly got stuck inside the walls when flying and would die because it couldn't get out and would be killed by monsters, the sad part? these were all maxis made levels. I personally think they should have spent more time testing these levels and looking for glitches, oh and on another note the game now runs slower and choppier than before. Great job you have managed to fail again.

(Note for those intractable fanbois that I am not anti-GA or anti-Spore or trying to put Maxis down. Ignorance isn't bliss and nothing is just black and white--so I'm going to play the 'evil' messenger and post the negative points in those reviews )

Crispygamer.com
"What GA adds is a nifty little scripting engine that allows you take your spacefaring creatures and play through missions that roll out like a best-of of 3-D gaming genres -- racing, combat, real-time strategy, puzzle-solving and even a little platformer play. But like the rest of the Spore universe, none of these genres is particularly deep." Linky here

Gamespot.com
"Sensitive collision detection can make it a hassle to move around in areas with lots of objects, and mediocre pathfinding can make using the "follow" command on AI creatures an iffy proposition. And clearly, not every object was created to be seen up close." Linky here

IGN.com
"Sometimes the game seems to throw you in missions you're not ready for, such as battling a particularly difficult foe while you lack any decent gear. In others, you might lack the right social interactions needed to succeed. While some of this is on purpose (you have to design a Spore Captain capable of accomplishing the mission), other times it feels arbitrary and awkward. And speaking of the difficulty, there's no way to save in mid-mission. This can be wearisome if your Space Captain is killed during some of the more lengthy adventures, forcing you to start the entire thing from scratch." Linky here

Eurogamer.com
"If this rational extension had been in Spore from launch, it may well have retained the lasting appeal that it obviously lacked. As it was, despite Will Wright's high concept glitz and glamour, the ultimate product was compromised. I've not seen anyone playing Spore on my Steam friends list since two weeks after launch and, with the Sims 3 in the wings, it's hard to be sure this will lure them back. Not until the World of Cocks videos start hitting Youtube, anyway." Linky here

MTV.com
"Ultimately, the tedium of excessive restarts coupled with control & camera issues are the expansion’s major undoing. The missions themselves add a great deal of flavor and personality to the late-game in “Spore,” but only for those who are willing to endure some sizable frustrations." Linky here

A + E Interactive
"Why would Maxis choose this as a first expansion? An action-RPG doesn’t fit in with the rest of Spore. The game was advertised as a tool to create creatures and develop civilizations, and that’s why people bought it. This is along the lines of an expansion to SimCity that adds a GTA-style game to it. If you’re going to expand a game, expand it within the confines of what the original was trying to do." Linky here

Game.co.uk
"If the original game didn't press your buttons, this expansion probably won't either." Linky here

GameDaily
"Action fans, on the other hand, that feel burned over Spore's simplistic approach to ground-based combat (sadly, all combat must take place on a planet), should skip it unless they want to run through the 16 included missions." Linky here

When is that first patch for GA coming out Maxis?

As of 6/29/2009, Galactic Adventures has a rating of 74 on MetaCritic based off of the following reviews:

80 GameSpot
Spore's first full expansion is overflowing with wit and charm, and it offers resourceful players a chance to get creative.

77 IGN
The Civilization stage still feels relatively cut-and-dry, and the Tribal stage resembles a rudimentary real-time strategy game. Still, Galactic Adventures does what it sets out to do in allowing for the creation and sharing of imaginative adventures. In that regards, it's a welcome addition to Spore.

75 1UP
It's far from perfect, but for players who want to get more out of the Spore universe, Galactic Adventures is a worthy addition.

70 GameDaily
For creative types looking to craft new adventures and share them with fellow players, Galactic Adventures is a must play.

70 LEVEL (Czech Republic)
Galactic Adventures may not be a cure-all to Spore's problems though players get a massive improvement to their space phase of gaming. Finally, there is fun out there in space. [June 2009]

70 Eurogamer
Though the Spore catalog is stuffed with useful creations, we still found it quite slow to load and not very easy to browse. Searching by tags is fine, but the mass of content (which includes a high proportion of mediocrity) means it can be hard and mind-numbing to find the best model for your job.

Player reviews were a 9.2.

HA is centered around the space stage. no content for Tribe or Civ was ever meant. And please stop messing with quotes.

As of 7/10/09, Galactic Adventures' MetaCritic rating has dropped to 72 based off of 16 professional reviews. Player review rating has dropped to 8.0. That's quite a drop in less than 2 weeks.

Link remains the same.
