Understanding the Complexity Score in GA
The complexity limit in Galactic Adventures is fairly generous in allowing players to add a bunch of creations to their Adventures. Still, many of you have requested a breakdown in just how the complexity score in GA is calculated.

Q: How many creations can I add to my adventure?
A: You can add up to 1,000 simple models. Unique models are limited to the number of slots in the panel, or when the complexity limit is reached. You can add up to 500 simple terrain brushes.

Q: Do some kinds of creations count against my total complexity more than others? Am I saving myself complexity points by using two of the same model rather than two different ones?
A: For models, the model count is weighted by count and uniqueness. Using multiple instances of a model uses less complexity than using several models.

Q: Exactly how to terrain brushes factor into the complexity score?
A: For terrain brushes, each brush is weighted based on its complexity.
• A very complex brush counts as 6 of a smaller.
• Global/larger brushes count more.
• Decals like the roads count more since they are more costly to render.
• The lava pit also has a particle effect for the smoke plume and counts more.

Q: Does density of creation placement on the planet effect the complexity score?
A: Not currently, but we advise creators to spread models out to support players with slower machines.

Q: Is it more complex if two creature slots have different behaviors than if they are identical?
A: These will be considered unique even though the model is the same.

Q: How many unique creation slots are available for an adventure?
A: 75 per palette.

I know you have feedback and more questions about complexity, so feel free to post about them. Also, if you're not sure if something will work, don't be afraid to get in the game and try it out for yourself!

ProTip: Dragging an item in the game and tapping the alt button will quickly create multiple instances of it. Play around with this and see how the complexity score is affected.

I don't have GA yet so i'm going entirely off the tutorial videos here, but when you set the behavior for a creature (wander radius, peaceful/aggressive, chatter text, etc) does it universally apply to all instances of that creature, or can you set individuals to behave differently?

This is a good question for the Gameplay FAQ over here.

So how many unique creation slots are available for an adventure? and is it possible to increase this by disguising buildings & vehicles as different buildings & vehicles?

I'll try to get you more info for your first question, but regarding the second, you can't disguise buildings, vehicles, or creatures as anything else. You can disguise gameplay objects as any object, building, vehicle, or UFO.

I'll try to find more info on whether you can use disguise to change the complexity.

Update: You can add 75 unique cast members per palette type. With 7 palettes (creature, vehicle, building, fixed object, gameplay object, audio effect, visual effect) that's 525 unique cast members, but there may be a cap I'm not aware of, so I'll try to find more info for you.

Wow, that was more then what I was expecting & certainly does away with the need for my 2nd question. Thankyou very much for answering that, really appreciated.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this but are adventures always going to be only 15 points or is there a system that just hasnt been implemented yet

Hi,

I am trying to build an adventure with an epic battle in the background. My problem is, I am running low on complexity points. Maybe some of my questions are already answered, but English is not my native tongue and and haven't found the anwers yet (differenent description of the same problems). It would be nice of Maxis to centralise all FAQ concerning building adventures.

My questions:

I have to use many instances of the same creature/vehicle to show different behavior: No Respawn+Running to battle, Respawn+Running to battle, no respawn+patrol, respawn+patrol, dead body, joining the hero, ... and more. Is there a way to save same complexity points? I tried to use the advanced behavior tab, but in most cases it does not work for the things I want to achieve

How much does waypoints effect the complexity?

Is it cheaper to construct a building of already used parts within the adventure or build the building in the creator for building and add it additionaly to the adventure?

How much does the advanced behavior tab effect the complexity?

Is the complexity of the terrain seperated from the property complexity or is it summed up?

---

I think there where more questions (and cant remenber them now o.O) but for now these are my most important ones. Btw: Most of these questions (and also the questions concerning complexity in the other editotrs) would have answered, if Maxis had added an tool tip for the complexity meter, which is showing a number like 0815 of 4711 points used

Thanks for your help.

As far as I can tell, the complexity of an indivudal object does not matter.
Switching a palette object from a building made of 3 blocks with a building containing 30 blocks does not change the complexity meter.

Disguised gates use less complexity than buildings.

Why in adventure "Bahaha 500 time trial" Complexity Meter is full twice?
