This is just an observation, but after trying my buddies version, which was not verified to his email, but working fine, is there a chance that the SecuRom or whatever antipiracy system your using is crashing the game? I know its a touchy subject, but you may want to look into that aspect of it Maxis. I know the piraters who stole your program for some reason have seemless, unpatched copies that play perfectly.

Its worth a look.

I ask this because everytime on his that I would finish the creature creator following cell stage, I would crash continuously. Once it was verified the crashes stopped completely at that point. Then the patch caused new ones to start, but no CTD's.

According to EA's CEO, SecuROM is

a) safe
b) viable
c) effective

I'm tired of patches that fix some bugs for some people and add many bugs for others. Maybe the problem lies in releasing them so soon? Take time with these things--MUCH TIME!!! I can make due with what I have, just don't put out one half-@$$ed patch after another a montheafter release. I didn't expect a patch for at least a couple months, not a couple patches in one month. For this reason, until I find out that a patch is released that doesn't mess up the game, I'm not going to even try and patch SPORE.

Is there a way to check the version of Spore, in or outside the program? It doesn't seem to want to install the patch manually or automatically inside the program, and whenever I try opening the patch's application it closes by itself.

Gotta keep patching SecuROM to stay ahead of the pirates!

NO! It puts it back. I had patched to 1.01 and was having many problems so followed some of the instructions to help cleanup the problems. One of the things I had done was to go through all the hoop jumping to remove SecuRom.

Well after installing the 1.02 patch which I did using a direct download of the patch (ie. not using EADM which is not installed on my comp. anymore) I now see that SecuRom is back installed on my computer. Plus I only play offline and am not running the game with the CD in. So Securom could only have come from the patch.

Guess it is time to go and get an update on how the class action suit started by a lawyer in California is going. She is suing EA for installing Securom on her Comp. along with Spore without any notification that Securom was going to be installed. You can read about it here http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3170131

I can tell you that I did see improvements in some of the problems I had (search for my nick in this forum to see them) by:
1. using the -jobPriority:0 parameter in the target of my launch properties. This was recommended by Maxis.
2. Uninstalling EADM
3. Removing Securom.

Hmmm ... Hope I will follow my own advice when the next patch comes out and only install it if I see other people saying that it is actually fixing more problems than it creates.

Game's crashing on me when in the editors now since the second patch. It's done it a couple times. Nothing kills a creative buzz like a game crash.

OK I took the plunge and downloaded the patch. I have not had any problems since installing. I had just wiped my HD and done a windows reinstall. And then reinstalled the game. Not sure if that helped or not but the game runs fine and has not crashed at all. I didn't save any of my previous games and just started over from scratch. Connected to the sporepedia and all my stuff reinstalled and I am back to where I was before plus the new patch.

Remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

I am posting my experience just so it can be noted and hopefully help in the troubleshooting process!

I was not having any issues with the game and I was at version 1.01.

When the 2nd patch came out, I downloaded and patched without any issues. During game play, however, I crashed during the Civilization stage and the Space stage as soon as I tried to communicate with another tribe/species.

And when I say "crash" I don't mean crashing to the desktop with a Spore error message - I mean the game crashed the entire PC, locked it up, and there was nothing I could do other than hold in the power button and do a hard shut down on my system.

After this happened several times, I un-installed the game completely (including EA Downloader) and re-installed new. I have not patched at all and I am running fine at version 1.00.

Running another game last night, the invisible creatures are back. And here I thought this patch had resolved the problem.

I've noticed some quirks with survey missions

sometimes after I've either scanned/beamed up all the items in the planet's food web, the mission does not complete. I have to go back to the planet and start scanning/beaming up at random until the game realizes that I'm done

I've also seen some invisible creature issues still

haven't noticed any cube planets yet

More power to her I say, not to offend Maxis in any way (its EA's fault not yours) but SecuRom slows down my pc and is evil. The fact that EA won't remove secuROM shows how immature and persistant they are in ruining my computer. I hope she wins the case so they have to remove it.

Thanks Tom for the sig!
