can you alter your/others race while in the space age? also can you use the eradicator on them (even if it only kills the people on the planet not the ships it would be sweet)

I've done dead colonies. First, get the Shield "weapon", and make sure you have the weakest laser. Then, fly to an enemy colony, go down as far as you can, put on the shield and zap all the people! The "weakest laser" part is just so you don't destroy buildings, it's optional if you can hit the broad side of a barn.
