I was going to post something like this in Help forum, but I searched and my question was already answered. So, since this is feedback I Figured I would post something I would like to see in a future patch here.

As small as the request is, I would like my colonies to have ports when they are placed near water. I may be wrong, but I think when there are spice geysers out in the water that you cannot reach, you cant maximize your spice intake for that planet. Of coarse you can always just use Terrain tools and make land bridges or islands, but I think having the option to actually have boats out on the water would be good too.

I agree. Or better yet, colonies on/under water.

Yeah I made one of my colonies very unhappy by trying to use sculpting tools to give it water access. >.<

A colony that has only one geyser in its area will produce as much spice (and at the same speed) as a colony with four geysers in its area. That being said, I'd still like to see docks and boats show up.

Totally not intending to create a port colony, I placed one then terraformed the planet. As I did, I noticed that it looked like the entire planet was expanding and getting larger.

Not only that, but the water level of the planet was rising at what seemed like a ridiculous rate. By the time I had the planet to T2, the water had risen so much that the colony was on a little island with a very thin strip of sand all the way around it. The land vehicle wouldn't move from the city gates; assumably because by terraforming, I isolated it from the nearest geysers by a considerable amount.

Over the weekend I discovered (and I was getting ready to start a post but this one will do) that on one of my terraformed planets two of the cities all of a sudden got sea ports.

I was going to ask if anyone else had seen this happen. I had tried for a while to terraform the area around one city to get it closer to the water but all that happen as I almost put it on it's own island so I gave that up. Then on down the line after the next planet or two that I terra'd I went back to one to gather spice and flora and fauna for another planet and had found that the water level on that planet had apparently continue to rise and all of a sudden two of my cities were now sea port cities.

Not sure if I will see it again or it was just a glitch.... but it was pretty nice to see that happen

I'm sorry, Dave. I can't let you read that.

You'll just have to hope it randomly occurs when the planet settles down after terraforming.
There's no way to guarantee a port and it's incredibly rare.

@Cysgodi
Screenshot please!

Also yeah, that would be a great addition, not to maximasi spice production 'couse the amounts of geysers doesn't matter but it would simply look cool.
