I got another one

Swamp area
- There is lots of water here and you can get stuck easly ( really stuck like in quick sands)
- if you spend too much time in the water your heat bar would decrease
- when stuck some creatures could try to kill you ( you could do the same)
- you would be able to climb trees to get food or shelter
- there would be huge creatures in the water ( Epics?)
-there would be parts that would help you to keep warm and others that could help you by absorving water and nutrients (to increase food bar)
- huge rain storms could creat a flood

I have a couple ideas that go along with this topic.

1. I definitely think there should be different ecosystems, and creature parts that make you better able to survive in them. In fact, I think they should change the whole creature stage to be a quest for survival, using parts that you earn. That is what evolution is all about, right? survival? But I think the ecosystems should change over time, forcing you to evolve your creature with different parts more suited to the new ecosystem.

2. Look at Earth's past - you have huge, mass-extinction events that obliterate most of the life on the planet, and only the most adaptable species survive. Now look at the creature stage of Spore - you have creatures hanging around their nests waiting for you to eat them or impress them... Not exactly modeled after reality.

But you do have certain interesting things happening during creature phase. One is the UFO that inevitably makes an appearance and abducts any rogues you have in your posse. The other is the asteroid that comes crashing into the planet, freaking out all the little creatures. I really like that event, but I think it should have real consequences. Right now it just makes creatures run around in a panic. What it should do is cause a major change in the ecosystem, and trigger an extinction event. It should automatically send you into the creature editor to allow you to evolve into a new species, and guess at what parts will work best. If you guess wrong, you'll have a very hard time in the new environment (like if you choose warm-weather parts and the weather becomes cold)

And these events should happen periodically throughout the creature stage. You can do whatever you want in between these events, and what you do will effect whether you're green, blue or red, but you don't evolve your creature until an extinction event comes along.

3. Then, in the space stage, you need to terraform planets to suit your own particular adaptations. If you ended up as a cold-loving polar bear, then only cold planets would be a T3 to you. You would need to make any world an ice cube if you want to exploit it.

Definitely, there should be weather in this game, and it should matter. It shouldn't be just for aesthetics - after all, it is shifts in weather patterns that have caused life to evolve on our own planet. (not a race to out-eat or out-impress other creatures)

My daughter when playing the creature phase has a storm complete with lightning. Then when a Epic Dragon wandered in front of her it was one of the most spectactular sights I have seen in Spore.

I have to dig some screenshots off her computer to share.

Same thing for me, and the rain comes down with the storm if it's above the area I'm at. I've had seen some wierd tornado-like storms out on the ocean, usually on volcano planets.

An in-game "procedural" eco-system would rawk.

Hey, it's raining. The creatures are running for shelter and the plants are growing.

Hey it's windy. Seeds are blowing all over the continent to grow more plants and it's hard to fly.

Hey it's a drought. Food is scarce and creatures are thirsty.

you know that there is no need to have all the weather options in one contines you could just spawn in a continet thart is windy or a swamppy area...
why are you trying to make this harder?

I would say that new weather would be awesome. But here are the two things:

1. At high graphics, there is weather: Strom, rain, snow, fire, etc.

2. Adding these things can slow down the game big time.

Beyond that, new weather and appropriate parts for those climates would be awesome! Hmmm... Perhaps there should be planets that have demonic like weather, where there is a lot of rubble from a perviouse civilization that died out and there is not as much plant and animal life... Kinda going with the Creepy and Cute expansion. These planets should also bring new degrees of difficulty, like superior over hard.

There is rain in the creature phase.

Make your own texture comparison, put it in your signature and help to get the muddy textures fixed!
