Why? Dude, we should celebrate. Something got an official Maxis-person response!

You do realize MaxisCactus has made 156 posts and he's just one of the Maxis employees who occasionally visit the forums, right? I don't see why people downplay the participation of Maxis employees so much around here. Some games don't get any employee responses.

Man, I like Maxis employees. They seem incredibly reasonable. In other places, I've seen topics get locked for dissent of any type. Not exactly what I would call free speech. Was that the BioWare forums I'm thinking of? Eh, can't remember.

I am certain what he said was sarcasm, but I think your request is a very reasonable one. It brings the topic in the wrong direction. Not to mention, the line between sarcasm and reality is very ill-defined online and in mobs.

Let's try to keep the discussion civil and to the point.

http://www.forbes.com/2008/10/12/dead-space-videogame-tech-personal-cx_mji_1013dead.html?partner=msn

Apparently, they're trying to change things and hook up with game makers like Bioware:

9. Wow. Electronic Arts made this?

Two years ago, "Dead Space" never would have made it through the green light process, say members of the game's development team. They thank Chief Executive John Riccitiello. Electronic Arts has garnered--not undeservedly--a bad rep for churning out uninspired sequels of established franchises. That's changing. Along with investing in respected development houses like Bioware and Pandemic, Riccitiello wants to improve the overall quality of EA games. To do that, he has supported internal development of original intellectual property.

The only thing EA buying up Bioware did is result in me steering clear of future Bioware releases after my experience with Mass Effect. They effectively destroyed my confidence in a label I've followed for many years (Baldur's Gate, TotSC, etc). Surprise, they did it again with Maxis, and I won't fall for it a third time. EA just offers so much cash for the deal that the executives can't resist, the real workers (creative assets) are just along for the mandatory ride (though there are many that are ballsy enough to walk, but they generally do so quietly).

I don't see any effort to change whatsoever, if anything they seem dead set on reaching terminal velocity before running out of altitude by ignoring the growing discontent with their consistently unfriendly consumer policy. Were I a shareholder I'd be looking for the parachutes (take a look at the stock history if you like), that's just me though.

There's already been dozens of those. I can provide names if you like. I'd have to look some of them up though, as they're pretty ancient now.

Hey Joe, you mind sharing some of the names of those RTS with me?

there was one game set in ancient greece, but i dont remember the name of it.

If EA ever buys out Firaxis, that will be the end of gaming for me.

(Okay, maybe not the end. I still have Japanese titles to fall back on)

At least 2K told them to take a hike, so some good titles are safe for now.

A new CEO wouldn't help anything. They'd probably just hire Chris Hecker for the job, then look at the load of crap were in then.

D'oh! Sorry! I completely missed this request.

Yes, I'll dig out the old CDs at home and get some titles for you. I have one that actually lets you set the land/sea/air/space movement and combat values. Spored if I can remember the title right now though.

For some reason, I'm thinking the Earth 2140/50/60 had custom units as well... but they look a lot newer than the titles I'm thinking of.

Total Annihilation pops to mind too, but I don't think they units were customizable in game...

Been a long time. Memory ain't want it used to be.
