In doing more testing with this mod, it works just fine with new creations. However, when previewing new creations (creations that aren't already in the cache), the game will randomly freeze. So it might be best to only have this mod enabled when you are creating new stuff, and disable it when you are playing.

Downloaded. I'll see if this works when I get on Spore in a bit.

I put it in the GA folder. So hopefully that'll be a good place...

Oh, and I was playing around with it and my game kind of crashed when I tried to slap a door on my building.

Yeah, I'm doing more research on this. It like like it might be more involved that turn a "allow hidden rotation ring" setting from false to true. It look like I need to add settings that specify the rotation ring. I hope to have a version 2 released soon.

This is the first mod I plan on using, but I'll wait for v2 if there is a problem with v1

Update:
Totat Base/roof parts version 2
http://www.mediafire.com/file/mmiojn2kiqm/dvd_BuildingRotation_v2.package

This should fix the problem with adding doors (I've removed the extra rotation handles on doors).

V2 still doesn't work with the Mac version.

Thing is, the GA Data folder re-directs to the core Spore Data folder, but that's where all mods are and they seem to work fine.

Hmmm. I've googled about looking for information about mods and Macs and I can't find anything useful.
Which other mods have you gotten to work?

I've had the first official mod by Maxis (about the Grox system flight distance) and the bot parts pack which came in a package file. I've never tried the betterspore mods, though.

How exactly are you making the mods? Maybe you were missing a factor by creating the package file.

I am using SporeMaster (version 2 Beta).
Here are the packages I unpack:
C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\SPORE\Data\Spore_Game.package
C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\SPORE\Data\Locale\en-us\Text.package
C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\SPORE\Data\PatchData.package
C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\SPORE\Data\Spore_Pack_03.package
C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\SPORE_EP1\Data\EP1_PatchData.package

The files I'm modding are
\buildingeditortemplates\#3A841CD1.prop.xml
\buildingeditortemplates\#9C141C9E.prop.xml

These are the template for base and roof parts.

Look for the lines containing modelRotationRingXAxisAllowHidden and modelRotationRingYAxisAllowHidden
And turn them into XML comments:

I don't know if turning them into comments vs. changing their values to true would make any difference. My earlier buggy version has them changed to "true", but I also had made changes to other files (such as doors). This combination works for me.

Here is the complete text for one file:

As you can see there are some other areas that might be interesting to mod:
<bool name="modelCanBeParentless">true</bool> ==> seems to be whether or not the part can stand alone or must be attached to another part.
<int32 name="modelNumberOfSnapAxes">4</int32> ==> might be related to how the object snaps when you rotate it. changing it to 8 or 12 might be useful.
<keys name="modelSnapToParentTypes"> and
<keys name="modelTypesToInteractWith"> ==> might be related to to what objects this object can connect to.

I suspect that if you change some of these, they will work in the editor but might not be able to share.

The package files are in the same directory, so I don't see a problem there.

I can't seem to find this folder and these files, though:

\buildingeditortemplates\#3A841CD1.prop.xml
\buildingeditortemplates\#9C141C9E.prop.xml

Either I'm missing a directory path or CIDER swallows some of the files to prevent crashing the emulation.
