spore quits after two to five hours of play, for no reason whatsoever, it just quits. bad coding somewhere, i would figure. so i have to restart it constantly, and now for some stupid reason, i cannot even log in through the game. wierd wierd wierd. it would be very nice if ea/spore folk would get the coding right for their site. or whatever is wrong, i hope it gets fixed by morning...... this is really irritating.. we pay good money for this crap? they seen us coming, didn't they? if i wanted this much trouble, i would have bought a peeeeeeceee. javascript:emoticon(' ');javascript:emoticon(' ');javascript:emoticon(' '); etc.

Please read the previous posts before you ask for a solution.
Try running Software Update and update to 10.6.4 and reinstall using the steps posted by AdamTheXombie a page or two back.
Here's a thought: don't run your game in fullscreen mode so might not have to force shutdown.

AdamTheXombie wrote:Hey guys, I just wanted to let everyone know that I have found a fix to the problem of Spore on Mac crashing on the splash screen.
This will most likely work on 100% of cases where you do a clean install of Spore for Mac, and after you have it installed, you load it, the splash screen pops up that says “SPORE” and then it quits seconds after that.
The problem is, the last few patches assume that you already had the game installed and registered upon downloading the patch. When the game tries to load after patching, it tries to open, doesn’t find the authentication key, and quits out on you. OS X, as wonderful as it is, neglects to tell us WHY things crash 99% of the time so it just appears to close the splash screen and never load.
It’s this easy, guys, and I really hope this helps the tons of Mac users out there who had the same problem I did.
1.) Do a full uninstall of Spore.
2.) Install Spore.
3.) When it tell you that there are updates available and asks if you would like to update, HIT NO! This is VERY important.
4.) Load spore and it will ask you for your key. This is the part that you most likely never got to before. Enter your key and continue on in to the game.
5.) Register your account for the EA online thing. I don’t know if this part is important to do right now or not, but I did it and I now have a working copy of Spore.
6.) Quit Spore.
7.) Load spore and hit yes to all patches.
8.) Play Spore and think of me while doing so.
I really REALLY hope this helps, guys. I even called EA and they wrote down this method, step by step, and will now be offering this method over the phone and adding it to the EA FAQ for Spore if it continues to work for people.
Hey Adam, may I suggest that you edit your guide? Add that updating to OS X 10.6.4 seems to be necessary. In an earlier post, a guy said doing this fixed his problems.

Hey,
This post will help a lot of you struggling with constant spore crashes before the game starts.
I'm running 10.6.7.
I purchased a digital copy of spore. I installed spore for the first time and right away, before initially running the game or inputting my serial number, I was prompted to install an update (actually several of them). I installed all of the updates yet upon running Spore for the first time, the game crashed. Repeatedly. I would only see the original splash and then nothing.
After some research I found this was a result of the fact that I had never put in my serial number on the original install. As a result, by accepting the prompt to install updates right away, I condemned myself to a non-working spore game. After more research I found that it was necessary to uninstall, reinstall, and then elect to not install the updates on the first run in order to input the serial number which would solve all my problems. This, however, did not work. After some more fooling around, I found out that simply dragging the spore folder into the trash does not uninstall everything related to the spore program. You need to download the free application "AppCleaner" to completely uninstall the program. Once this is done it clears out ALL info related to spore and then upon reinstalling spore and declining the updates I was able to put in my serial number and the game worked perfectly. Afterwards, I was also able to update the game with no problems.
Long story short, updating the game before playing or putting in the serial number is a recipe for disaster. COMPLETELY uninstall the program, and reinstall without electing to install updates until you have input the serial number.
Hope this helps.

I have found a solution to the crashing of the game in the creature stage on a Mac computer. The game would always freeze and I would have to restart the computer and couldn't save my game. Here is what you do:
-First I upgraded my computer to the Mac OS X 10.6.8
-If you have the upgrades, you must Delete Spore and then reinstall Spore
-Then you go into finder and search for a preferences folder. There are many different preferences, but it must only say preferences. Not system preferences or anything else.
-you look in that folder and find Spore preferences
- Delete SPORE preferences.
-Play and have fun!

Installed off disk. Downloaded All the updates (I think) at least all the ones it prompted. I click spore and it pulls up the spore logo (I think its called the splash screen) sits there for a second then just disappears as if I never clicked anything.
(Running OS X Lion on a brand new MacBook Air 13-in 128GB) PLEASE FIX THIS!
Thanks,
Eric

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
(also as a note for me if the Patcher stalls [doesn't start downloading at all and you can't close it] just tell your Mac to restart. the patcher will cancel the restart and then start patching =D thanks)

My mac is 10.6.8, but I last installed spore back in 2008, adventures in '09. Do I just need to uninstall and reinstall to stop the madness?

Thanks. This seems to have worked for me. Not tried patching again yet, but I reinstalled it, skipped the patching and it plays.
