In terms of filtering, we provide the raw data, it's up to your app to filter it. ...
I'm pretty sure the random feed will be fixed soon.

Makes sense... Is there any way to get more than 20 items then? I'm sure that after I filter the items, I'll be left with 2 or 3 that meet my criteria...If I could get a mess of them to start with, after my selectNodes filter, I may not have to make as many subsequent calls.

Just noticed the widget, and just like blackbird (once again...)It's working. I really like this one and how it's set up.

Hey Snobau,

You can use one of the other feeds and get as many assets as you want. Until the bug is fixed with random though, you'll just have 30. Why not switch to one of the other feeds for now so you can continue working on your app until the random bug is fixed?

1000 Featured creations, for example: http://www.spore.com/rest/assets/search/FEATURED/0/1000

I have sooo many things that I would like to do(and such limited time), that I am not being held up by the bug...

RANDOM is one of the main components of my app. Sure, the users can Spornament the fetaured, but there are only a select number of those items, and once they have picked that winner, there won't be enough creations to do as many spornaments that I see as neccessary for Level 3 winners.

I do plan on letting the users spornament the other types, but I want to focus on RANDOM to start with because the pool is so large.

Just want to know if I can get more than 20 when you do fix the bug b/c one of the other guys told me that you would probably only provide 20 as a max [want to see if I can get that changed ]

It's not likely that the random feed is going to be much longer, even after the bug is fixed. For performance reasons we can't send back a huge list of random assets, so what I'd suggest doing is just querying again after you've exhausted your current list. So you'll have to write a loop that queries the random feed, does the filtering, and then queries again... and so on, until you've gotten enough assets.

Sporepedia Screensaver
http://forum.spore.com/jforum/posts/list/16122.page
Screenshot

Description
A screensaver that shuffles through creations from the Sporepedia. Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard only. The reason I made this is because I disliked the look of the original screensaver (here) and I had the tools readily available.
API usage
Using Quartz Composer's (a Mac development tool) new ability to parse XML documents, I used the RSS APIs to gather information from a given feed about each creation, including the title, description, author, link, and large image.

The boatcake is coming for you…

Fantastic idea impiaaa..

If only I had a Mac The ability to "accidentally discover" new assets via a screensaver is a great way to add to our content... It would be fantastic if there was some way to (from your screensaver) add the item to your favorites, but that would require a REST service that isn't available (I've have a reply on the 'questons' about exposing something), but I like that you can see the creation via a keyboard shortcut (we can do everything from there)

That's awesome! You win!

My own broke-code make me feel rather inadequate now. Fortunately, I think there's a pill for that.

That's what I would like too... I already know who I've buddied so I don't see the point in being able to get a list that tells me what I already know... what I want is to be able to get a list of the people who have buddied me!

They are counted and the number is displayed on my MySporePage, meaning that that information is already collated... so, how about making it possible to get an itemised list of them?

Sig by OldRygel. Plant and Marine editors would be nice.

Sporenament:

A way for you to "find" new content by pitting one person's creation against another in a tournament. There are 3 Spornaments (Level 1, 2 and 3).

At level 1 you compare 16 random creations (although you have the ability to filter by Buildings, Creatures, UFOs or Vehicles [or any combination]) until you reach one ultimate winner at the end. The winner will be saved so that it can compete in a Level 2 competition. [That part has not been started yet].

At Level 2, you compare 8 Level 1 winners until you reach one winner at the end. That will be saved for a Level 3 Sporenament.

At Level 3, you compare 4 Level 2 winners.

At each level, both the Author of the creation and the person who judged the Spornament will be awarded "Spoints" which will be used to determine what you are allowed to do. I plan on putting some sort of leaderboard by Spoints.

Any of the assets can be right clicked and you will have the option to visit several of the Maxis webpages related to that asset. If you are logged in, you could do anything you would normally be able to do, such as add asset to a Sporecast or make comments on the creation.

For now, the only part that is 90% complete is the Level 1 Sporenament. Once you start the app, click the blue level 1 button at the bottom. From there, filter your assets, then just click on which asset you like best in each of the groupings. If something isn't implemented, a messagebox will explain what the plan is for the thing you clicked on.

The app requires the .Net 2.0 runtime. It will prompt you to install it if you don't have it but for some reason the link takes you to the 3.5 runtime (you have to choose 2.0 runtime from the right-hand menu).

Feel free to provide any constructive feedback!

We are working on getting the "who-buddied-you" and "what-sporecasts-have-your-creature" lists available.
Keep the apps and suggestions flowing!

By the way, I'm checking out the Sporenament right now and it is fantastic! Great Job JoeyBagOfDonuts!!
