I've re-installed it multiple times to different directories and the default directory, and it works up until I install patch 1.04 at the prompt. Is there a way to correct this at the moment? I've grown tired of re-installing it.

Have you done a manual uninstall priro to installing? This is different than uninstalling via the control panel. You can read more about this in our FAQ under the Uninstall section.

I have this exact problem, once I update to 1.04 I get the missing or corrupt [1004] message and the game does not load.

I did the manual uninstall, then reinstalled the game and it did the same thing.

EDIT: I FIXED IT

ok on my recent reinstall the game crashed on startup (spore version 1.00) so I tried a fix I read about, changing SporeApp.exe compatibility settings to windows 98. That didn't fix it, so I installed patch 1.03 and the game worked, in-game it updated to 1.04 then game me that error message on every start up. After this I did the manual uninstall and the game worked on the first startup (version 1.00), then patched to 1.04 and it gave the [1004] error. Apparently windows had kept my compatibility setting even after deleting that folder.

Solution: make sure that windows 98 compatibility setting is disabled.

I had this problem too. What I had to do is uninstall Spore then go to where it was installed and manually delete the Spore directory. Then I just reinstalled and everything worked fine. Just had to start fresh was all.

I still don't know of any other feasible solution other than manual uninstall and reinstall. Be sure to run the GA from the hard drive, by default it's at":
C:/Program FIles/Electronic Arts/Spore_EP1/SporebinEP1/sporeapp.exe

Instructions on manual uninstalling:
Back up your saves if you still can now first http://help.spore.com/cgi-bin/easpore.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=20401

Then you may uninstall spore manually. Use these articles
Manually Uninstall Spore - More Thorough, Includes Registry entries
http://help.spore.com/cgi-bin/easpore.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=20380
Manually Uninstall Cute & Creepy Parts Pack
http://help.spore.com/cgi-bin/easpore.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=20849
Manually Uninstall Creature Creator
http://help.spore.com/cgi-bin/easpore.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=19880

Then install spore, patch to 1.05, install c&c then GA (do not install Creature creator again), then patch again. Then run GA right from the app.

If it fails again, find the SPORE folder , directions on finding it:
http://help.spore.com/cgi-bin/easpore.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=20401
In it there will be a preferences folder. Delete its contents (or rename them or remove them from the folder). Just a test.

Start a windows search and search for Documents and Settings. Chances are your default drive is not C:, you will find it. Unless of course you have vista, then I think it will simply be named users.

What are you currently having trouble with? You found the Users directory in Vista? It should be there when you double click the default drive in Computer (the one you installed Spore on, usually C

I had a problem too, but with Windows Xp
I had my pc cleaned, SPORE, CnC and GA deleted.
Reinstalled Spore and CnC fine, but GA says at the end of installation:
File: Spore_EP1_data.package
Error: Data Error (Cylic Redundancy Check)
