I removed it after I was done just because it might not work with future patches but yeah it saves you alot of grief in general whenever you get anywhere near the core.

I just captured the last Grox planet and rec the badge for wiping out thre Grox using the mod mentioned earlier.

i'm not sure if the grox take back their planets but this one empire took back a few planets after i destroyed their cities on them.
