Evolutionary Lineages Challenge
A contest series from the makers of the Xenological Realism Guide

Challenge Details

This continuous chain of contests will follow multiple lineages of alien races through their unique evolutionary histories. Here is the order of the contests:

01. Colony Vehicle Sets (Completed 6/9/09)
02. Space-faring Creatures (Completed 6/28/09)
03. Building Sets (Completed 7/30/09)
04. Civilized Creatures (Completed 9/7/09)
05. Vehicle Sets
06. Tribal Creatures
07. Late-Stage Creatures
08. Mid-Stage Creatures
09. Early-Stage Creatures

At the end of the first contest, "Colony Vehicle Sets," the top 5 sets will be chosen and will be used as the models for the next contest, "Space-faring Creatures." This means that the Space Creatures entered should be inspired by the designs of any one of the winning Colony Vehicle Sets; they should look as though they are the alien race that designed and uses those vehicles.

In the next contest, "Building Sets," participants will design collections of structures that they imagine the top 5 Space-faring Creatures might have resided in... next are the Civilized Creatures that would have built those cites... then the terrestrial Vehicles that those Civilized Creatures would have used... followed by the Tribal Creatures those Civilized Creatures developed from... back through time until we get to the original early creatures that began each lineage.

Current Contest

Part 05: Vehicle Sets
- You can submit any time, but the contest is officially on hold for the foreseeable future.

Each Alien Lineage uses two complete sets of vehicles based on their cultural tendencies:

     Morzith - Economic & Military
     Izridi - Military & Economic
     Harooshian - Religious & Economic
     Ploran - Economic & Religious
     Ratha - Military & Religious

This means that each Lineage needs a total of six different vehicle models, for instance the Morzith need one of each of the following: Economic Air, Economic Sea, Economic Land, Military Air, Military Sea, and Military Land.

As a creator, you may submit full sets or you may submit individual vehicles, the choice is up to you. At the end of contest each vehicle slot will be judged separately, whether or not it's a part of a creator's set. So, there will be six winning vehicle slots per Lineage, for a total of 30 possible winners.

- You may submit as many creations as you like before the deadline of November 10th, 2009.
- Please follow the general XRG Guidelines concerning aesthetics.
- Make sure to specify which Lineage and Vehicle type your submission is for.
- Please include the tag "xrgchallenge".

Cool, I'll make some entries....BTW you can access the colony vehicle editor by hitting the edit button on an existing colony vehicle, then hit new creation once in the editor

Thanks for all the interest. I hope this starts off well, because it could potentially be a really interesting series of contests once the ball gets rolling.

Just so everyone knows, I would ideally like entries to be new creations that are made intentionally for this challenge, but if you already have some complete Colony Vehicle Sets, then it would be okay to enter them.

Please note: Entries need to be saved in the Colony Vehicle Editor in order to be accepted. This is not the normal Military, Economic, or Religious Vehicle Editor, nor the Spaceship Editor. The Colony Vehicle Editor is it's own separate editor in the game.

By the way, I have Sporescope installed into my web-browser, which allows me to see extra info about vehicle types that is not normally displayed in the Sporepedia. This lets me distinguish Colony Vehicles from other Vehicles without having to download them and look at them in the game.

If you use Firefox, then I highly suggest that you get Sporescope:

These are looking great. Thanks for the entries.

antipyrene - Yeah, you can definitely spread the word... that would be very helpful. It's something I've been meaning to do, but haven't had the time. It would be cool if all the folks on the XRG Specialists list were notified via PM or comment or something, but you can recruit whoever you like.
