I just reinstalled Spore (with Creepy and Cute, and Dr. Pepper, and Galactic Edition - IN THE CORRECT ORDER mind you, with the Dr. Pepper pack being the final thing installed) and I cannot seem to stay connected. This is also a fresh new install of Windows 7.

It disconnects me from the spore servers without reconnecting every 10 minutes or less.

I have searched this forum and thread and I have found nothing yet that works.

...wat do?

It's a server-side issue. There's nothing you can do from here. The servers (when there were about double the number) used to keep us logged in as long as we were playing, but no more. The oddest thing is, you are disconnected insofar as uploading to the sporepedia, or downloading an adventure, but the server will stay connected to the client for extended times downloading updates.

Typically I just go back into settings from the client's menu (what you get when you push the spore icon pearl in the lower left). If you go to "internet settings" you can re-login from there. That's the best we can do from our side, the decision to drop us is a server-side issue.

So many people claim its a server problem when i think its in the patches. I just started a while back played the game perfectly without updating it ran 100% fine i updated and am now having the troubles there for it must be a bug in the patch 5 or below i only have spore none of the expansions. Notice how it disconnects you after going into a creator its ether a bug in the patches or a conflict between the client and server not just a server problem. plus many people have posted many work around's just try some and stop posting about the same problem unless you have a solution that's not stated.

Pretty condescending for someone who didn't even read the whole thread there Yuki.

People aren't just claiming it's a server problem, it's been tested and proven that it is a server problem.

*Edit* It seems in all likelihood you got lucky, the last 2 times I've reinstalled Spore it hasn't even stayed connected long enough to patch itself, I have to manually do it. So it's nothing to do with base Spore or patched Spore.

I log on and when I go onto a planet it logs me out automatically.

Yes, I know this is short.

at night/evening i can't stay online in the game for more than a few minutes,
most of the time it's next to impossible to even download the creatures for a new adventure,
which means that most of the time i can't play new stuff
gotta admit that it is tiring

but i noticed that sometime in the morning/noon i can stay online
for some hours, not always but sometimes

online, i've haven't had any problems, not here nor one spore site
i "only" have troubles in the game..
(and "only" is a large understatement!)

please EA do something about this problem
you can just sh*t like this on your customers

I have the same issue. I log in when I start playing, and when I look in my Sporepedia five or so minutes later I have to log in again. This is annoying because you can't log in from the Sporepedia sometimes and I have to leave my game just to log in and give comments.

You have this incredible ability of ascertaining a vast quantity of knowledge and the only thing you need to access it is to type something as SPORE simple as "no number language" into a search bar followed by hitting the "enter" key and you will be presented with pages of relevant results. If this were something recently discovered and published in an obscure field-specific research journal, then fine. But SPORE. It significantly takes more keystrokes and time to complain about not knowing something than it does to actually look it up.

I have the same problem, although whenever it happens to me, I just re-type my username and password in and everything's better. It keeps me from sharing while in the editors, though.

There were changes to the server-side code and the length of time it waits between requests from your system and the amount of time it takes to drop you as inactive was shortened.

This was done to prune server traffic, and because very, very, many people complained about the auto-share feature during gameplay. Now the archetypes are widely represented, they don't need to leave auto-share on, so the connection of so many users just demands a bigger server.

I think it's a wise choice, and it prolongs the length of time we have a server available to us overall.

I've tested recently and if I stay on the "share" side of things, I stay logged in for as many as 4-5 hours.

Sounds like you got fed some crap by EA and bought it. It logs most of us out the second we start a mission or campaign of any kind. It's not on a timeout, it just doesn't properly stay logged in.. I can spend 5 seconds in a campaign after logging in, go to create, make one change, and already be logged out so it won't auto share.

The only thing this benefits is driving people away from spore onto other games. And that only benefits EA, which is why they never bothered fixing it. This thread and many like it were up long before Spore had any need of reduced population.

Hell half the time it logs me out if I start the game, log in, and go into a creator, by the time I can place one part it's gone. SPORE slapping players and making sharing a pain doesn't help the community stay alive, a decently coded server does. EA isn't so short on money they can't support a server like this, hell tons of smaller companies have successfully kept their servers up for much longer and running much better, EA just doesn't give a crap.

DId you READ what I said. Guess not. If I stay in SHARE (got that? SHARE) I will stay logged on for ... as of today 6 straight hours. If I play, I get logged off. That is NOT IN SHARE. LMAO

Try listening.

If you are in share you can watch your network services and see how often you poll the server. It's much more often than when you are in the game, editors or adventures. From them you only poll the server when you attempt to share -- in other words, after you have been disconnected from the server.

Do you know how to verify the number times you're polling the server, or when it's responding?

No?

Then don't tell me about being fed a line by anyone. I've been doing my job for 30+ years in systems. How long have you?

For someone whining about reading you haven't read most of the threads about this including this one. Nor did you pay attention to what the actual complaint was in this thread. Nor is your experience with share valid for everyone. That was my point, you entirely missed it. I'm not explaining it again, for the umpteenth time to some cocky "professional" who has no backing, nor did he bother to actually pay attention to the issue. What you are describing has nothing to do with the problem being asked about in this, or the other threads like this, which is why I ignored it and pointed to the actual issue, which is regardless, for a lot of us, no matter what we do, it...will...log...us...out, even just staying in share, or anything else, we still get logged out constantly. The fact that it is an issue and not intentional has been shown time and time again, and confirmed in the past on other threads just like this one, and emails to members. It's not EA prolonging the servers, it's them not giving a SPORE. It's all well and good that you did some testing, but you're not the first network professional who plays spore and looked into this, and others that have went a lot deeper than you.

THIS thread is two years old, it formed when Spore was still nearly in it's prime.
This thread branched from several other threads that had gotten too large/old and were taken down and directed here. A lot of those threads were around 1 year old themselves. It is not a new issue to address declining population. It's been around for a long time.

OK. Now that must have made you feel so much better, didn't it.

I was responding to Maxx who wondered why he was getting logged off. It's because the client is not polling the server except in the sharing mode, where it's looking for material to download.

It's very evident from your level of screaming and attempted lulzy insults that you just don't get it.

I'd explain, but you're not interested in an explanation. *shrug*

You are, however, amusing me no end. So much rancor for so little effort on my part.
