The feature thread is now live, posted a couple of days early so we can get it organized. The feature will be up early on Friday, our first category for Creator of the Week will be Theme 2 - Creepy, Anime, Sci-fi, Mythological. The focus is mostly on Vehicles/Spaceships (for easier sorting). SporeTV will have the Q&A and dedications and we'll figure who will upload the trophies for the winners (Creator of the Week, Creation of the Week, and this week we'll do an Honorary award as well). Here's a link:

So you're saying Creepy is focused on vehicles and ships? That makes sense regarding anime and sci-fi, but creepy and mythological sound much more creature-oriented (although creepy can be fit into anything). It seems odd that a topic would befocused on the type of editor rather than simply watever fits the theme. If it just happened that more ships and vehicles got into that category than any other, than fine. But I'm a little dissapointed if the topic itself is intended to look more for ships and vehicles. I'm hoping this is maybe just a bit of misunderstanding on my part.

I'll explain it better. Because the masterlist has so many names on it and we wanna make sure the 4 nominees that go out each week are as close in profile as possible, we can use several tools. One is choosing the genral theme. In this case, it's Sci-fi from the Creepy/Anime/Sci-fi/Mythological category (or for short Theme2). To further narrow down names we can sort them by editors used. I'm sure you understand more than 4 people make noteworthy Theme2 creations. The nominees last week use the Vehicle and Spaceship editor primarily but they also use Buildings and Creature editors.* It's just a way to sort out names and make sure we don't have nominees who are vastly different. The Creepy/Creature and Outfit combo is scheduled for a couple of weeks later, so don't worry, we'll have some nasties out there soon. I hope that clarifies it, let me know if you have further questions.

*A creator needs to have 8+ medium+ complexity creations with an editor to be considered to be using that editor for masterlist purposes.

Ok, that sounds more like what I wanted to here. I was just afraid that you had the themes focused on editors, which would mean that a lot of people whom might be worthy wouldn't have much of a shot simply because their focus, though in that theme, was on a different editor. What you're saying now though makes much better sense and is something I can very well agree with.

It's focused on theme, for several reasons, like I said we want to be fair to everyone regardless of what they make. But also lets not forget our judges fall into different categories themselves. For example, I would fall under Theme 3 for masterlist purposes (Abstract/Artistic/Alien/Bizarre). Naturally I would lean to vote towards what I do myself, but this way I have a set of nominees that have similar styles and use similar editors, so my preference matters much less.

Very clever, it's like when you ask someone their preference on two movies, one being a comedy and the other being an action film, you can't really compare the two as they are so different with barely anything in common. However asking preference between two horror movies is much easier as it's the same genre of film.

Hopefully that made some sense.

The pairing of theme with editor is designed to keep things fair... Rotating the category and editor type makes sure that creators with similar creations are pitted against each other. BTW, the first Feature has already been selected.....

Tune in on Friday for the reveal!

An interesting idea... I hope to see some great realistic creations for downloading (I have very few in my spore game because of my realism standards), but at that I have to ask... What happens to the nominees who make it to the last four, but dont win? Can they ever be nominated again, or are they removed from the list? It would seem a shame to never get to see their work at all.

Not at all, altho the list is long it's organized by priority, which a function of previous Maxis features, number of comments, upload frequency, quality consistency, etc. The high priority names on the list are about two dozen (which is about half a year worth of features). What the nominations do is they decide who goes first. Once everyone on high priority has been nominated at least once, we start rotating again using different groupings. So a creator can be nominated multiple times before he or she gets featured.

Sounds very well thought out. Can't wait to see some excellent work.

Can't wait to see who the select few are, I have ALOT of commenting to do when they're up (I told myself I'd comment on 10 creations for each of them)

That would be great help! ^^ We hope that people will comment/rate/subscribe the features. We surely will be monitoring the tangible difference a TCP feature makes as much as we can.

Glad to be some help

Also if you want my opinion (you would be the first ) I'm predicting TCP will give alot more fame to those creators than if they were to make it on the MPN or Featured list, I mean being featured and on the MPN top 5 is great and all but it fades away within 24 hours, but with TCP your telling the other creators that the individual has been chosen by numerous high quality creators.

Hopefully that made some sense.
P.S. will the TCP be announced sometime today or early tomorrow? or when?

I believe what we'll end up doing is posting the forum part of the feature first early tomorrow and adding the creations to the Sporecast. I'll ask Numerator to switch the stickies. Then one of us will upload the Trophies, and SporeTV's dedications will probably be released later in the day. Judges will gradually upload the announcements on their profiles over the course of the next few days.
