I finally got my copy of the game from Best Buy and am really enjoying it so far but I have a question about finding all of the meteor pieces in the tide pool stage.
I fairly quickly got to the end of the stage where I grow legs and go on land. I haven't collected all of the parts and the mission indicator tells me to find meteor pieces to get additional parts. I have swum my little flagella off and can't find any more meteor parts to break open for additional body parts. I have 4 of 6 and I am using an herbivore.
Is it not possible to find any more because I chose herbivore? Or do I simply need to keep swimming?
And is it possible to break open the shells that are floating around with a different type of creature?

I've only ever found 1 meteor part per cell phase attempt, the rest of the parts have all been discovered by killing other cells with the parts I want.

the very first time i played through the Cell stage, i didn't break open a single meteor piece; i just kept swimming around and other cells ended up breaking them open near me and i'd swim over and get the piece.
i guess it was just the right combination of luck and coincidence?
anyway, i'd say just keep swimming around until you find them all because you will find them all, it might just take a little while.

I don't think you can get all the stuff by just getting meteors, the meteors seems far to rare for it to be possible.
You have to become a fighter and kill creatures, when you mouse over them, you can see if they have special items, that will drop when you kill them.
Growing your creature can be a problem, because when you get too big, you will no longer get it's item when you kill it.
I haven't been able to do a full collection since my first game as I outgrow things before I get around to killing the stuff dropping the items, sometimes being experienced is not a good thing.

At most in one game I found 2 meteor pieces. In general though getting them all doesn't make that much of a difference.
Even as a herbivore there are ways to get pieces other than from meteors. One is to try to survive around carnivores remembering that you do not have to kill the creatures to get the part. The other is equip poison as soon as you can as that tends to get more drops. Bear in mind however that certain parts only appear in certain phase levels.

I believe the meteor pieces only show up to give you the chance to get parts you may have missed from cells you've outgrown. So if you're swimming around in the final stage looking for the last couple of parts, you may need to stick a couple spikes on yourself and get them from other cells. Apparently you can mouse over or select a nearby cell to see if it has the little shield icon by its name and thus has a part for you.

I noticed when I was as big as I could get before going on land, that I didn't find anymore pieces, and I missed 2 somewhere.
My next time through I will try it a little differently.

Even if you're an herbivore in Cell stage, give it weapons! Unless you're trying to get the "Pacifist" achievement.

If you end up as a carnivore or herbivore and you want to be able to eat both meat and fruit on land, just add a small mouth of the other type. But remember to not take it off later, as you can not put cell parts on once you've gone on land.

It's possible to get all the parts no matter what sort of mouth you have. But you usually won't get them from meteorites - usually the part shows up when a cell that has it dies.
Whether the part is in a meteorite or on a cell, you'll see a trail of yellow-wish sparkles. They make a long trail, so you'll know when you're close. If it's on a cell then either kill it or let other cells kill it then grab the part. If you're an herbivore, you can still kill, either with poison, or electricity, or spikes. (If you keep trying, you'll notice you can get two spikes next to your mouth, facing directly forwards - then make them as large as possible with the mouse scroll wheel).
The hardest part to get is the proboscis (the omnivore mouth) which is on a fat green cell with a ton of cilia around it. It's dangerous! The poison part is on a slim purple cell with a carnivore mouth (looks like lipstick) and the electrical part is on a reddish cell on which the electrical part is yellow and is as large as the rest of the cell's body.

I've played through twice and I've never seen a meteor piece.

I know how you feel. I suggest putting at least one spike on and killing all the enemies you see with a part you don't have.

It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.
Small problem with this philosophy. if there are an infinite number of worlds, and some portion of them are inhabited, then there CANNOT be a finite number of inhabited worlds.

Whenever I play cell stage and I'm not cramped for time, I go and get all the parts.
Meteor bits are really, really rare--you're better off not relying on them at all.
Instead, what I personally like to do is equip my cell with as many spikes as I can slap onto it; preferably a set on every inch of non-jaw skin I can manage. You should be able to do this, and still have room left for your swimming apparatus of choice. I prefer the little fins; they give enough maneuverability without moving too quickly for my technique.
From there, chase down absolutely anything that moves that isn't big enough to swallow you whole. In the case of cells without too many defenses, just chase and chomp them like normal. For bigger cells and carnivorous cells with things like spikes and whatnot, you don't want to outright attack them; tempt them to make a pass at you. As soon as they go for it, turn onto your side, and they'll impale themselves on you.
For some, it only takes one good jab and they're done for; others may freak out and try and run away from you. Pursue them, and try to pin them between obstacles if you can.
Killing tons of stuff with various parts is the fastest and easiest way to collect all the parts, and it's a hell of a lot of fun, too. I love chasing down the huge cells and picking on them just because I can. Psh, they think they're so tough.
