This morning, one of my creations got a red face and to make things more odd, it was my first TCP announcement. OK, I'm not the only one and it had happened to many others, but since it happened to the TCP announcement and not to my zodiac monuments it sort of hints to a certain group of people.

Now, I'm a patient man, I've never downrated anyone, I've never asked anyone to rate any of my creations and I certainly try to help everyone getting better with their creations, so the only reason I can come up for this downrating is some sort of twisted jealousy.

If you need to downrate me because you're jealous of my work, please contact me and I will gladly give you advice for any of your creations. I am a supportive person and will always help where I can. I stand to my word.

I am not mad at the downraters for abusing the system, I am mad at Maxis for not responding and failing to remove the downrate button, in other words, supporting such atrocious behavior. Therefore, I am going on a personal rating strike. From now on, I will abandon the rating system and will only leave comments on your creations. You may or may not join me in this endeavor (forgive the pun) to show that Spore isn't a popularity contest but a platform for our creative minds.

I'm just saying that if almost everyone stopped rating altogether, we'll see who is so desperate to end up on the MPN list. I certainly am not, but if any of my creations do receive a heavy downrate, then that's where I draw the line.

I know that there have been boycotts and other protests before but none of them seem to have worked. Maybe this one will or it won't, but I stand to my word and will only thumb up other people's creations again once Maxis is man enough to remove that redundant downrate button.

I won't be making a list of anyone ready to join me, all you have to do is to ignore the rating system and focusing on commenting only, if you like.

Good thing I already do that.

But that's because for some reason on my end of the internet I don't even SEE the thumbs to click on. Hell, there's not even an invisi-box for me to click on where those thumbs should be.

People downrate all the creations other people love that I've made. x_e It's really bugging me.

i've only seen one red faced creation. looks as if someone/some people has/have a hate thing for TCP?

whatever, how childish. and i agree the downrate option is a bad idea i.e. 'if you don't have anything good to say, say nothing at all'. that should be left to the comment box and constructive critique only, even there.

pondering the idea of joining this strike. i won't make a hasty decision. i think it deserves some thought....

For weeks I have problems with massive downrates. It's really annoying me.
That means I will join the boycott of the rating system!

Hmm, I believe I've only used the rating system a single time, I always forget to use it after commenting on a creation...

I'm in before it existed, due to my bad memory

But true, the downrating is the same nonsense as the forum's karma system.

Now imagine if you were a SporeMaster... I've been having a lot more downratings ever since I became one. Thankfully none of them got me a red face, but it's annoying.

I'm not joining the boycott, just wanted to say this: Andeavor, you're one of my favourite creators, probably one of the best around the Sporepedia, and no downrater can change this fact!

a group of "popular" creators that feature unknown creators. I have my disagreements with how the TCP and Spore TV, and all of the other "big projects" that seem to merge, work, but I would never downrate their stuff.

The *censored* dowraters are at it again, eh? Oh, joy. I think I'll join this. I haven't rated anything recently anyway because the rating symbol won't even load.

I vote for the sole ability to uprate, not downrate. If you don't like a creation, you shouldn't bother doing anything with it, anyway.

By the way, sfw12345, what does 'UZSSBOIHEKZ BG ERL XPIDQZ, JPI BEOLZHL, BQQRNBMQ.' mean? I tried breaking the code for hours, but I give up. What's the key?

I am supporting you, as I am not a rater by default. I changed my habits after Spore came out. I did very little rating (sometimes on my own creations) in the times when the environment was quite calm and it was difficult to make political statements with creatures in the Creature Creator. I am thoroughly familiar with the mathematics of the rating system.

The way the rating system is currently being used amounts to bullying or clique supporting. It is like having 'gang wars' erupting in the neighborhood when we are interested in peaceful gatherings of creators and people like us. The anonymous nature of the rating system makes it eerily easy to victimize someone you do not really know well or has gotten on your fragile and hair-trigger nerve. I am well aware of TCP (Top Creator Pick) and its presence in the community. I respect its mission of finding unknown creators and helping them rise in ranks among the people.

The rating says very little about your real opinion or whether you actually have both positive and negative comments on the same creation (what you liked and thought could be made better). A thumbs-down on a creation such as a Molecule is often emotionally charged, but a comment on it tells what the person feels about it (even if it is a collection of carefully positioned spheres to match the 3D shape of the real thing that we cannot see directly). These reasons are why I avoid the rating system like the plague. Let us see what happens to the MPN when EVERY creation is at zero, a set of complete neutrality!

Completing my dissertation work.
