Get it here...
By placing this package on your data folder, most of the game's GUI (graphical user interface) will be replaced with a re-skinning themed after the best living artist's visual style... Swiss subrealist, Hans Ruedi Giger.

The "old" new background and smileys are also included.

The new color-scheme makes some stuff less obvious, so it's recommended for experienced users, since Maxis did a good job designing an "easy to grab" interface, this one, if more barroque, it's thought to be more pleasant for my twisted mind.

Feel free to edit, and reshare your own versions... just remember to give credit where is due, to me, BL and Void, and let me know about it so I can learn and enjoy from you too.

Have fun! And tell me what you think!

...
The Old OP:

My first mod release... Well, my first mod, period. Only aesthetic changes. No game-play variables modified.

Based on Ball Lightning's concept GUI for BetterSpore, took his greenish scheme and expanded it to most glowing effects and some menus. If you got tired of the cartoony portraits shown for stage selection or the editors this will replace them.

All humanish-smileys from the game get changed by the new alien-smileys I custom-made. Still antropomorphic but with a less human touch to them.

As bonus, the set in which the "wanderer" space species is shown has been replaced by an all new creepy H.R. Giger backdrop.

(Due to size limitations the file has been split into four parts, download all parts and then extract from part1, it will put all back together.) Then place the resulting Looks4vira.package into your Spore/data folder. Done.

Not known incompatibility... all feedback is appreciated.

Disclaimer:
I would post a direct link here, but modding shall not be done blindly... Read the FAQ and how to backup your game. I'm certain this one won't cause any crashes or weird stuff, but in case it does, for any reasson (that won't be related to this, I know) I don't want nobody blaming me without reason.

This is not an oficial Maxis mod (duh!) It will not affect game-play, and no, it doesn't count as cheating for badge or achievment get. It's been tested to work on Spore 1.3 (latest patch) and Cute&Creepy... It's likely to work on previous versions, but has not been tested.
I'd like this thread to be used for any feedback or suggestions, but also to post your own mods... (although what would be really nice is to have an official un-official mods thread... hint, hint)

It's cool... It's only for looks, in case you got tired of the default GUI.

This as a part of the BetterSpore mod. And i must say that it does look really cool when playing, now we just need to get some more of the game (like the sporepedia) converted.

Right... would be cool, but backgrounds are not animated, so they would look like stiff dummies.

I would say the old display creations aren't "cartoony" at all. Cartoon style can be very asthetically pleasing, and impressive. What they had were mediocre creations made with minimal parts. No offense.

That "antlers one" for creature... lol... yeah... pretty random.

Forgot to mention that if you ever want to go back to the previous style, all you have to do is to delete Looks4vira (or either rename or move) from your data folder and all changes will be reverted.

You wouldn't happen to be in the business of making personal styles for individual creators?

It doesn't hurt it at all. It actually makes it much cooler. You can delete it at any time you like.
