<How you used Spore API>

We'll start...

Buddy Browser
http://www.spore.com/comm/buddybrowser

Description:
The buddy browser is a cool way of browsing Spore creations by starting with one creator and then traversing their network of buddies.

Spore API Use:
This app uses the asset RSS feed: http://www.spore.com/atom/assets/user/MaxisDangerousYams
and the buddies REST feed: http://www.spore.com/rest/users/buddies/MaxisDangerousYams/0/10
It also uses the following REST feeds:
http://www.spore.com/rest/assets/search/TOP_RATED/3/2
http://www.spore.com/rest/assets/search/TOP_RATED_NEW/3/2
http://www.spore.com/rest/assets/search/FEATURED/4/5

AppName: Spore Featured Content Gadget
Link: http://www.thevioletpiece.com/spore/code/featuredgadget.php

I made a Google gadget that displays the most recent featured creations using the SporeAPI method
http://www.spore.com/rest/assets/search/FEATURED/0/8

This was fun!

You can add any to your iGoogle home page by clicking on the +Google on the bottom left!

Sporenament.

Just started developing it, but basically a Sporenament is a Spore Tournament.

When you start the app, it will get 16 random creations and put them into a tournament grid. You will then pick the winner of each matchup so that you end up with one winner at the end

After I get that part working, I want to create my own webservice so that the winner of your spornament will be eliblie to compete in a Level 2 Sporenament where the competition will be between 8 Level 1 winners.. Once there are at least 4 level 2 winners, you will be able to put the winners into a Level 3 Sporenament.

You will be awarded points for completing Spornaments. Maybe 8 Level 1 Spornaments will allow you to pick a level 2 spornament winner. 4 Level 2 Sporenament winners will allow you to pick a Level 3 winner.

The winners (the creations themselves) of each level will be awarded badges (Level 1 Winner, Level 2 Winner), etc, and maybe the owners of those creations will be be able to pick a winner of a higher level tournament.

Eventually, you will be able to choose the types of the competition (for example, Only Spaceships... Right now I can't do this b/c the REST service does not allow me to specify the asset type returned)

Feel free to share any ideas of your own. This is a work in progress where I wanted to learn how to use an existing REST service and to create my own services.

Sounds like a really great feature.

You will then pick the winner of each matchup so that you end up with one winner at the end

Would it be possible to let them compete ?

Buddy Activity
New Widget on your Spore profile page: http://www.spore.com/view/profile
(Be sure to add it to your page if it isn't already, by clicking "Add or Remove Profile Sections" and then checking the "Buddy Activity" checkbox)

Description:
The Buddy Activity Widget is a great way to see what your buddies have been creating lately. You can view a list of recently created assets in your buddy network sorted in chronological order, most recent first. Then click on an asset to get the larger view, see the creators icon and tagline, and get links to the Sporepedia.

Spore API Use:
This app uses the REST feeds:
List of Buddies: http://www.spore.com/rest/users/buddies/MaxisEditorDan/0/100
List of Assets (with timestamps): http://www.spore.com/rest/assets/user/MaxisEditorDan/0/5
Asset Data, for getting rating, comments, etc: http://www.spore.com/rest/asset/500000176502
XML, for getting the 3 paint colors from creatures: http://www.spore.com/static/model/500/000/176/500000176502.xml

Enjoy, and please send feedback!
