The Slothk inhabit a region known as "The Edge". It is, essentially a very large desert, and is a land of harsh extremes. Long hot day's and cold nights means that very few things survive there, and those that do, are very well adapted. Since the main predators of the area are frequent mostly during the day (due to a strange natural occurence that allows them to use photosynthesis) the Slothk have evolved to be mostly nocturnal. During the day they typically stay underground in large communal caverns or caves, which usually contain 1 or 2 families. Then, at night, the males of the family's go out to hunt the other indigenous nocturnal creatures and forge for other food. This underground living has caused the Slothk's eyes to become very weak towards the sun. Whenever they venture out in daylight, they either have to apply a special ointment to their eye's, or put on protective shades.
Although the Slothk are technically a nation. They prefer to keep things tribal, with each clan having set hunting/foraging areas. Usually, two or more clans act as allies, sharing hunting grounds and trading. The Slothk are governed by their elders, who act as the clan (or clans in some cases) leaders and typically settle disputes between individuals and solve problems concerning their own clans. However, if a event such as war, famine occurs, which threatens the entire Slothk nation, all elders of all the clans are called together to form "The Speaking", which is the body that controls all nation wide laws, regulations, ect. In good years, "The Speaking" usually meets just once a year.
The Slothk are deeply shamanistic. They beilieve that all life is only borrowed from "The Great Darkness" and that it all must one day be returned. As a result of this outlook, they are very easy going and peacefull, usually choosing to take "life one day at a time" and not get too fussed up about anything. They usually try to keep an open mind when presented with other systems of beliefs and usually chose not to argue over such petty matters. This mindset has also made their warriors fearless. Often charging into battle without the slightest consideration for their lives or well-being. This has made them feared with the other members of the planet, often stating things like, "If you have to fight a Slothk, which dosen't happen very often mind you, don't bother."
However despite all this, the Slothk are very lacking technology wise. Part of this is due to a lack of resources in their region, and partly because they are slightly techno-phobic. They have simple wagons pulled by domesticated pack animals and surprisingly ornate hand made tools. They have the traditional stone axes, spears ect. But also posses a very strange weapon that is almost like a grapling hook, except that it shoots out a poisonous barb that gets hooked into enemies skin. They have also domesticated one other local species known as the Dacknack. They are slightly simian in nature and are hardy, loyal creatures.
