EA certainly spored the pooch on this DRM:

http://consumerist.com/tag/mass-effect-DRM/?i=5016980&t=ea-allows-3-activations-of-mass-effect-and-thats-it-period#cea-allows-3-activations-of-mass-effect-and-thats-it-period

http://masseffect.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=635474&forum=127&sp=15

Apparently Mass Effect users still have this problem.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but this made me think.... what if this was EA's plan all along? It's not a mystery that the PC gaming industry is far from its "golden age", and more and more game devs / publishers are turning to console-only development. Now, EA can't just do that in a snap, part of the reason is that it's grown so big over the last Spode-knows-how-many years, and has acquired studios that focus on the PC platform (Maxis, Bioware...). This would be an easy way out of the PC market for them, in a year or so they could easily claim that it's no longer profitable to develop PC games, piracy and all... and they'd certainly have the numbers to back it up.

I know, I know, it sounds like one of those aliens-are-among-us conspiracy theories.

Signed.

Even though I've personally yet to have problems with SecuROM or the install limit, its obviously an issue for others.

For the conspiracy fans... something for your amusement in addition to the EA/console thing.

Sony produces the Playstation brand (consoles) and associated products.

SecuROM is a product of Sony.

If they were to push gamers away from the PC gaming products, where do they turn?

Not saying it's the case, but...
