Oh no, forgot to put them in a sporecast!

Uh-oh. Don't have time, though, so just count all the ones I put in as...well...you get it. Hope I'm lucky!

Lol Good luck my friend... at least you made enough assets! I totally read the deadline wrong and didn't make enough creations in time :/

Galactic Adventures... looks like it's going to be another non-tanned summer!

..................................

Oh, great. I'm so totally out of this. I don't have ten creations, because I just ran out of ideas, I didn't make a sporecast, I only tagged a few with "GAProp"...
MaxisCactus will be mad at me and I won't be in fifth place and-
Darn it. I guess some people will just have to be fools in the history of Spore, I guess. No hopes of being accepted. Just hopes of losing.

Why did I have to misread the rules?

Right now the entries are being checked and we are awaiting the lineup of finalists for us to vote on. I think some points are worth considering when deciding on the winner of this challenge.

First, is the set of GA props a very good representation of a coherent and uniform world, both outdoors and indoors?

Second, can the parts be used to generate nearly seamless structures that appear dominating or awe-inspiring?

Third, how well can the props be used to generate a wide variety of missions (exploration, timed missions, defense, siege, extermination, etc.) with the editor?

Fourth, are the props giving an effective aesthetic feel to the surreal environment (do the parts, when put together, make the visitor feel as if he/she is visiting a strange world)?

Sometimes we attempt to create overwhelmingly complicated props that end up filling up the complexity meter quickly when placed on the planet, limiting our structures or interiors severely. So when we try these sets out on our own, we should test how many or how large the surreal setting can be defined on the planet. (This applies well to those who already have GA and can test-drive the sets on their own.)

These are just my advice for those who are going to look at the finalists.

Completing my dissertation work.

Nice tips... But complexity on the independent props do not affect the complexity limit. It just affects performance on lower rigs. If the prop is ment to be big... or up-close, go complex. If it's small or some part of it won't be seen, don't push it on weakest users.

@Virakotxa, thank you so much for clarifying that the complexity of an independent prop does not affect overall complexity.

I was concerned about that myself, and I cannot get my copy of GA until next week sometime to try my set out. I'm so relieved to know that I will be able to use the set I've created and not worry about it maxing out the meter because of the individual props being too complex.

Thanks again!

@quantamania, great tips. I agree that when voting we should most definitely consider if the props make the visitor feel like they have walked into a surreal world!

Good luck to all the wonderful creators out there that have put so much into this challenge - your sets are all truly wonderful! I'm sure picking finalists will be very difficult!

Here are some of my props from the Darkbarren sporecast.

Quite surreal, aren't they? See the whole sporecast here: http://www.spore.com/sporepedia#qry=advssrch-DARKBARREN%3Afi-TITLE%2CAUTHOR%2CTAGS%2CSUBTITLE

@Doomnova, I've been keeping an eye on your team's set. Must admit very intimidating - the Darkbarren sporecast is brilliant!

Your team has done a fantastic job! And yes very surreal, like walking into a disturbing nightmare! Love the set! Can't wait to see it made into a GA mission!

Strange... For some reason, the Team Darkbarren sporecast doesn't appear when I search for sporecasts with the tag 'mcsurrealchallenge'. It does have that tag, though.

Erm, Doomova, did you read the rules? I do believe that MaxisCactus said to submit them on the 23rd of June...but still, they're awesome!

...But, well, about me, my hopes still aren't all that up. I didn't read the rules right. I didn't tag them or put them in a sporepedia. And I ran out of ideas so I only have eight, proving that I probably won't be featured at all, or even comm-oh, nevermind.

Yeah... I noticed that too. I didn't think you were permitted to continue adding new stuff to the challenge sporecast after the close of entries??? Doomnova, the sporepedia is showing creations in your cast with dates of 6-24, 6-25, etc.. If you want to continue to add to the shared set, just for GA use (not for the contest), then perhaps you should do so by way of creating an entirely separate sporecast? Or simply hold off on sporecasting the remainder of the set (all pieces that were shared to sporepedia after the deadline) until after the challenge is over. Just a thought.

Uhm, I don't think anyone said you couldn't continue creating props for the sporecast...

Just that the sporecast should have atleast ten props by 11:00am PDT June 23rd 2009 to enter them to the contest.

• All submissions must be in by 11:00am PDT June 23rd 2009

I would take that as meaning 'all' of the entry/entries (completed sporecasts/creations) needed to be submitted by the 6-23-09 deadline. Maybe it is a matter of semantics, but the common definition of 'all' that I am familiar with means 'every part'... not 'a portion of'.

Again, not trying to be argumentative at all. Just wondering where you read that it was indeed ok to continue to add new material to your entry after the deadline has passed (maybe it was buried in this thread, and I totally missed that change?).

Are you talking to me or somebody else?
However, it's reasonable if you're talking to me. I didn't make enough creations anyway.
