Seriously, with SecuROM restrictions would you buy a copy from eBay? I wouldn't chance buying what is essentially a paperweight. As it is, the game is not resellable.

Well....I'm not ashamed to admit that I have followed Spore everywhere I could since it was announced.
Oh yea, I was really into it. (Now I do feel a bit silly for spending all the money on it )

I bought the game, played it inside out just to make sure that I wasn't missing the game they had shown me for 3 years. Then I discovered that basicly nothing of the original game was present...then I got bored as well.

If I knew how the game had turned out, I wouldn't have bought it.
To me it wasn't worth the price but thats all just personal experience right.
If your daughter grows bored of it fast that says enough I think

I totally agree with you on every level possible...that's exactly the way it happened for me.

Ditto! I was blown away by the 30-minute video halfway through Freshman year of college, which would have been January of 06. I've obsessed over the game since then. Signed up for the newsletter as soon as it was possible to do so...not that I ever got any e-mails. A memo about "taking the game in the opposite direction from the one we originally stated" would have been awesome.

Apparently I didn't keep enough of an eye out to notice what they were doing over the last few years...but I guess that's my fault?

That doesn't seem to stop people from trying to sell their used copies. Oddly enough, starting bids are a LOT higher on them. *shrug*

(Edit: I should've clarified in my previous post. The $10 starting bid auctions are "brand new, never opened" copies. Looks like stores are already trying to clear Spore off their shelves.)

Well, a new copy from Ebay would be fine, assuming the seller is honest. But for that, you need only to look at their feedback. I never buy anything without checking the seller's feedback first.

You look for the ones that say "NEW SEALED" and the seller has a high feedback rating (I go for 99.x%). That way, if it isn't what they said, you can usually work with them, rather than have a vanish seller. Plus, if they don't listen, you can file with E-Bay and GET YOUR MONEY BACK.

No it's not they screwed every1 over thats why you see so many complain threads on this forum.

It's like watching a Fallout 3 gameplay video and instead getting E.T.

LOL

No it wasn't your fault.
None of my newsletters told me this.

Then again, I only got to play with the CC when I flew to the US just for Spore. Who can do better ?

Oh and leipzig I did as well ...I was and still am crazy about the game.
Maybe the reason why I am so vocal about how cheated I feel.

Actually, I don't look for anything. I don't buy from eBay.

Was just pointing out that there were a lot of cheap auctions for Spore.

EA probably assumed Spore would be a smash hit, so they churned out millions of copies. But with the disappointment of fans and the DRM controversy, the market is now saturated with a game that few want to buy. Hence, the influx of cheap auctions on Ebay.

Oh, internet sarcasm. Some day I'll make you work...

And I know exactly what you mean, Parvati...I'm still obsessing over the game I *should* have right now. I like the current incarnation of Spore, because the creators are still cool and it's better than nothing. But it's kind of bittersweet because every time I play, I get into at least one situation where I think, "Boy, if this was Spore '05, this part would be SO COOL."

What bugs me, with all this talk about ebay and the game being cheaper already (MUCH CHEAPER).. To add the fact that people are STILL selling it online used even, its apparent that EA's tactics have caused them many more problems than I think they realize. Why cant they just deliver a good game, listen to their fans, give decent patches... etc etc... instead they just see fit to rip us off. Never will I run out and support EA the way I did in the past. Midnight at walmart in this case to get this errr.. ummm. abomination.

I dont really care what happens to this game, or to EA at this point... they all deserve it (the suits not the workers). I hope too that EA doesnt get "bailed out" so to speak. These companies need to start paying for what they do. Then and ONLY then will they start doing whats right, and make good games again. And perhaps they will think twice when they want to break oh so many promises.

I *HAD* high hopes for this game because of the simple fact that it had MAXIS written on it. Its apparent though maxis is dead, what they were is gone... overshadowed by the greed, and power of EA . Shame on you EA .. shame. Its sad though, in the end.. I think its the fans that will pay.. and be replaced by a new set of "puppets" so to speak.

IMHO!

I'm waiting two weeks after November to get the parts pack via Ebay for a buck.

That's inviting a loss.

Sigh. I still wish SPORE would have it's glory parade. So far it's been a journey downhill.

This game could have been something, sadly corporate greed got in the way.
