It's absolutely ridiculous that people can think that aliens can come to these ancient civilizations, help them, and then the people don't draw them, or their ships, or anything that hints that there was alien influence. And the conspiracists that think that aliens helped make the pyramids and other landmarks are crazy also. They used lots and lots of slaves. Period.

There is some more current evidence suggests that the Egyptians actually used Egyptian contracted labor to build most of their monuments, not slaves (idiot slaves can't be trusted with elaborate architecture anyway). What better way to put your populace to work during the farming off-season than to build giant stuff?

For some reason people can't bring themselves to believe that ancient engineers were indeed skilled enough to design and build these things. There are numerous examples of smaller failed and partially built pyramids that predate the great pyramids, so there was a learning curve involved, they didn't just magically know how to do it.

The simple fact is that these days if an alien race landed on this planet to help advance us we'd probably try to blast their heads off.

I'd like to point out thaat the Egyptians were like the Romans in that they recorded everything about their civililisation in hieroglyphs. They were excellet record keepers but we've only been able to read the language since the rosetta stone was found. If they were visited and taught by aliens they would have surely recorded it yet there is no mention of it in their records.
If anyone was visited by aliens it would be the hindi. Their texts tell of all kinds of things that seem modern to us and they accurately predict the age of the universe as 13 billion years when it was first written 4,000 years ago (a brahma). But even so obviously thats a it of a stretch. The term theory here is used very loosely, its atually a hypothesis since there is no credible evidence.

I remember reading about a document (or rather stone, as papyrus doesn't weather well) they found a while back that listed the wheat yields of every farmer in a province and the percentage that they had paid into the government's food fund.

People tend to forget that this was an empire, complete with the bureaucratic systems and document keeping that that requires. Most of their more mundane writings have been lost to time, but it's pretty much impossible to maintain that sort of system without extensive record keeping.

The great pyramids came about late enough in the Egyptian's development that any visit from aliens surely would have been extensively documented in both stone and papyrus (and word of mouth above all else).

For whatever reason (superiority complex perhaps?) we choose to think of ancient people as one notch above cavemen, not the fully modernized humans that they were.

I know the ancients discovered a lot of things, sailing, embryology, medicine, crude electricity storage devices, steam power, astronomy, the greeks even calculated the time it takes for the earth to orbit the galaxy. But some ignorant people believe that theres no way these civilisations could have possessed the same knowledge as us when it was around for thousands of years. Unfortunately much of our knowledge about early history is lost as people tended to abhor knowledge in those days and had good old fashioned book burnings.

There is billion upon billions of planets that aliens can visit, and unless the aliens got lucky, they couldn't have found us. Besides, why would the aliens want to help us build pyramids? Don't they have anything better to do?

And gods come from peoples' minds.
