But seriously, try sifting through foreign languages in order to find good words for a name.

I name mine the way a civilization from the outside, discovering the world, might name it. I often pretend that the worlds are ones discovered and monitored by ethologists... so I since the "natives" are not advanced enough to name themselves or the planet, I choose a name my pretend ethologists would.

Since they tend to be Dutch (the Dutch being great explorers) or Irish (because I love the language of my ancestors) that's how mine get named.

Like the Bloedvlek, a creature spattered with red speckles, or the Verteller (my favorites) an old society whose chosen work is to collect the art, mythos, morality plays, urban legends and great ballads from all over the universe and preserve them for the truth one finds within.

Just click the random name button find a name you like and edit the random name that came up and there it is your new species name.

I do kinda like that for a mech name, or a ship name.
