That's business.

I am a practical atheist. I do not believe that there is a scientific need for a god. Science explains things just fine. If you agree, copy-paste this into your sig.

The major flaw- It takes a lot of energy to split compounds. You'd still need plenty of coal for electricity unless we get some huge, super-effective solar panels by the time you have it on the market.

Also, of course, the generators will weigh a bit, too.

But it is a genius idea, if we had small enough technology to put it to work. But who knows? Maybe we'll all see your name in lights one day for inventing it.

Believe it or not, those nuclear cars in Fallout 3 are based on a real design that (thankfully) never saw light of day... can you imagine a car accident with a nuclear engine?

I do believe chevrolet has developed one... It's a hybrid, and runs at 40mpg, and needs to be recharged evry 320 or so miles.

That's the deal with those nuke cars, you don't need much uranium at all to power them, so technically speaking, you wouldn't worry about the city exploding, you'd worry about yourself, it'd be a tiny nuclear bomb, about the size of 2 cars.

The amount of power needed from the solar panel to split the compounds would be very high, and if there was a solar panel with that power, then might as well use it with an electric car and run it just like that.

Believe me, many people (even Toyota) thought of this, but it will not work practically.

I'm pretty sure he said that the solar panels charged the batteries, but didn't power the electrolysis.

The problem with hydrogen cars isn't getting electricity, the problem is the cost of production including expensive calalists and the fact that the fuel cells are fragile (cars bump a lot on the road).

It would not be a nuclear explosion. Secondly, we have technology today that could be used to secure the core, however it is powered, whether by actual fission or by decay, that would keep it safe under even the most extreme of circumstances. The containers we carry waste in on trains can survive an hour behind a jet engine, being hit by a train, crushed, set on fire, and then hit by another train...

Containment materials weren't as advanced back then as they are now. It just may be time for the auto industry to look at this again. I would very much like to drive a fission powered vehicle.

But until one is developed, I'll continue trying to track down one of the nine surviving Chrysler Turbine Cars:
