Alright, I think i've got everything I needed to post into the three starter posts. Check the third post for what needs to be done if you want to help with finishing the game.

Be aware I go away on the 15th of August until 10th of November - i'll be unavailable on those two days for sure, but in between i'll see if I can get back onto the net from where i'll be staying.

If I may make one suggestion, I think three active slots would allow for more flexibility and deeper strategies. For example, you could have active cards that would work together in card-combinations to produce different game effects, such as three of the same creature that would gain bonuses as a pack. The active slot rules would still apply--that being at least one active slot must be occupied at all times.

That said, i think this idea is awesome and i would probably at least test a game like this.

OH wow THis seems like a fun game.

I can't wait to give it a try. If you need a play tester lemme know! I"m always available! Plus I've been trying to find a card game like this in a while.

OH SNAP ITS THE HUGMONSTER.... lol. Get the bowlingballs ready!!

It could be done. It'd need testing of course, but there's no reason we couldn't run both versions in the final game. I intend this game to be more flexible about rules, since this isn't going to be a commercial product there's therefore a much higher amount of freedom. Tournaments and such probably aren't going to happen - I have no illusions that this game will likely remain a small community thing if it takes off at all. This affords us a much higher deal of flexibility than other games would allow for.

Right now i'm most worried about filling those last sixteen open card slots stated in the second post. You can volunteer your own creatures, or point a creator you think would be interested to the thread.

I've already got blank templates sorted out, but;

1) I don't want people making cards until the rules are finalised
2) They're currently .psd format for editing in Photoshop, and the whole pack comes out at around 250meg.

this looks very interesting. Could you post a template of the different kinds of cards once it's finished? It looks interesting, and must have taken some time to think up.

Wow. Rarely read the forums but this looks amazing!
I presume based on the certain comments that this would be a game played online rather than physically owning the cards?
I've played card games before and this looks to be by far the best, though rather complicated. Read the rules but skipped the odd explanation here and there so will take another look at some point.
Thanks a lot for the time you have put into this!

It could be either. You could either play online if you discover some means to, or print the cards out and play physically - they're designed to be printable.

Currently that's one of the problems the game is facing - I can't find a good application or such to play cards with online. If anyone knows of one or could make one, it'd be a giant leap forward in finally playtesting the game. I'll actually be able to test the game physically when i'm away on my vacation (visiting my girlfriend who has helped with the project quite a bit), so if all else fails I can test it that way.

See, I thought this could have been a perfect application of the Spore API. If you sacrifice the notion of "unique" concept art for each creation, with a determined team you could pump out an AWESOME online card game. People could choose their own cards from there own creation by fetching the XMLs from the website.

That could be done. I don't see why you couldn't have two versions of each card - printable and digital. The printable ones would be akin to the Azzard in the original post, and digital ones would be as you describe - files compatible with the Spore API. Sadly I know next to nothing about programming or the Spore API, so I guess that's a task for someone else to take up if they are willing. I hate dumping my work on other people, though. ._.

Well the API is cross platform, and card games are usually well documented in any language. I think it would be a case of adapting an existing engine to suit your needs. The Spore API is well documented too.

Question is finding someone that can pull it off...

This looks like it will be made of pure win and ownage, but i have two things to say:

1. tl;dr XD I got the basics of it though, so since you said that the rules are flexible i think i can play it.

2. are captains counted as spacefaring? Or are captains not allowed at all?
