I don't know, I think Maxis should stick to land and oceanic species for now.

a very good and thought out idea. But this idea won't currently work with how spore is set up now. But perhaps when Maxis decides to work on spore 2 (truthful, i think that due to copyrights laws, public pressure and EA are reasons why the game was released so unfinished)

question tho: in your idea, will their be a chance after every stage to regress back to water, if you choose land or water? my thoughts would be if you choose a stage but want decide land/water is better, you have to pass the stage first get and get a second/third chance confirm you decision, if you switch you must repeat stage on chosen format, if you stay then you advance (but at the city/civ/space, you must stay with choice)

Here's my list.

Nuclear Stages.
Quantum stage.
Atomic stage.
Molecular stage.

Microscopic stages.
Virus stage.
Archea Stage. *the entire domain of eukaryote are descendants of the arcea's, not bacteria.*
Protist stage. *protist stage being my name for our cell stage.*

Animal Stages.
Aquatic stage.
Transitional stage. *the days of lobed finned fish, tetrapods and amphibians.*
Creature stage.
Note on animal stages, you are only forced to one location during the aquatic stage, after that the land, sea, and air are all available to you. I.e You can't leave the water in the aquatic stage without having to hold your breath, but after that stage it's all opened to you.

Preciviliation stages.
Early Sapience stage. This would be the earth equivalence of the days of homo erectus and such.
Caveman stage. Note I'm looking for a better name, please help me find one. This would correspond to the days of homo neandrethal and homo sapiens.
Tribal stage.

Civilized stages.
Classical stage. On earth this would be from the dawn of Sumeria to the mid 1500's.
Renaissance/City stage. 1600-1830 or so on earth.
Industrial/Civ stage. stage. A modified version of the current Civ stage, you would gain vehicles a third of the way into it.

Space stages.
Interplanetary-you go between the celestial bodies of your solar system, it is still only vs your species here.
Interstellar-what we now call the space stage.
Intergalactic-gained once you get the staff of life.

WORD! This is exactly how I would like Spore! (Minus the nuclear stage) Oh, and a fat and lazy stage between Civilization and Space.

I reckon a civilized stage would be good, like a stone age thing before tribes but after creature. You could for tools, fight off neighbouring clans, stuff like that.

I 'm surprised at how many people want aquatic stage. I'm one of them.

I wish Maxis would hurry up and add aquatic stage! About one out of three players wants it, at minimum! All they have to do is bring back and rework their earlier ideas and add in the collective helpfulness of about 100 different Aquatic threads.
