Sorry for the bump but ten year olds are not dumb, many 10 year olds I know are millions of times smarter than the average teenager.

My preferred way to play adventures is just hit the random button and start playing, it's more fun to me. However you don't get the description until it's too late. Maybe others got into your adventure randomly and couldn't play it. Personally I don't downrate for that reason but others might.

I'm uploading my latest creation now! I'll post the link for it.

(PS: Downloading it from the Spore website doesn't work, rather download it from the in-game Sporepedia)

PPS: I don't know why, but on the in Game Sporepedia, I'm Airedale11 not Airedale12 so don't get confused!)

However the average 10 year old is not smarter than the average teen.

There you go.

My policy is: Uprate if I enjoyed it. Don't rate if it wasn't fun, but not stupid. Downrate if it is impossible do to poor construction, terrible grammar, or language, etc. and don't rate but comment if there are game breaking glitches. I understand people downrating for game breaking bugs.

This planet shall be mine, and Didzo will be my servant.

Actually...from what I've seen, most 10 year olds are more sensible the most teens.

Downrater= illogical person. If you got a problem, drop a comment so the person can fix it. Or, you can more directly say "you suck". At least the creator will know why you didn't like the creation.
Not only hating on downraters, but doesn't anyone else think that there should also be a comment box on the adventure review panel (where you vote) so you can comment more easily? I think that would be great.

(Also, when did the world turn so angry against 10 year olds and teenagers. What's the difference, 3+ years? Come on. )

Really? You think avoid games with misspellings or all caps/all lower case is a "one of the worst excuses I've ever heard?" Did your game just come in the mail yesterday? There is no way that you could be enjoying the same adventures that I've played.

I'm sorry I really doubt "cras landing" or "planet of mistery" are hidden gems. Especially when the only photo is the generic planet one and it's nothing but a cue ball. It's usually a sign it's made by an eight year-old and I'll be fighting six epics with 3000 HP and have to trudge for six minutes across a barren landscape to get to my next objective.

But you go ahead and keep playing them. You apparently a high threshold for pain.

lol, Spore is not like other games. It's completely different when a company makes it opposed to players...

You shouldn't just automatically assume and judge something. You might have overlooked the best adventure you will ever play just because of a few spelling mistakes or lowercase letters.... No, it isn't a sign that it's made by someone young. Even if it was, there are still good adventures that are made by kids. The author might not speak English very well either.

And no, I don't have a high threshold for pain...I just give things a chance, especially when it comes to player-made adventures. I have patience, and will help people out rather then bring them down.

Here's a quote from a friend:

Let's be realistic... when people play "real" video games, they have a greater threshold of patience. If you play Zelda or Metroid or Left 4 Dead or Half Life... people are willing to keep trying and trying and trying. They will take all sorts of loss and abuse, so long as they can win.

But with Spore, when people can't do things smoothly, they take it out on the adventure creator. Fact is, players are too critical of GA missions, and yet, sometimes they're not critical enough. I am sort of happy to say that my first and only adventure (so far!) has 60 plays, but it also has a level 5, very difficult rating.... and seriously, my five year old mentally-challenged cousin beat my mission (offline) just about as quickly as the top scoring player in the stats.

People give up too easily with our GA missions because not only are they lazy and stupid, but mainly, because they have the ability to rate and comment.

If people could rate and comment on all video games, then you can trust that most video games titles would also have questionable and/or strange ratings.

It's a whole new territory, GA... it's going to take some time. The lame players who give bad ratings need to stop playing so much and maybe try creating their own adventures, and then they will realize how much work is involved. And the people who spend all their time creating... they might need to take a step back and play some missions to see what does and doesn't work

Overall... I agree. I have no idea what causes people to play or not to play a mission. It makes no sense that my basic mission is level 5, very hard, and worth 73 points. I have one, READ: ONE, hidden goal in the first act. After that, everything is self-explanatory.

I just created my mission like the games I love playing, where your curiosity is rewarded by inspecting random things, etc. It's no surprise that I've gotten 100% on every Metroid game, not because I am reading FAQs, but because the environments just intrigue me, and I want to inspect everything. I am naturally curious, and so I create adventures with people like that in mind...

It appears to me that several players are down rating because they think my adventures are hard. Well, I told them in the discription that it would be, but they still get upset that they don't get the points or I give them Epic Fail or whatever, and R-

And any adventure I create with a locked captain is not liked very much because the player will not get sporepoints for compleating it.

But the players knew all of this BEFORE thay played it. Just because my adventures aren't titled "Free Points" I feel as though my creativity is not being appreciated as it should.

If you downrate something, tell us why, PLEASE!

It's reallly anoyying. In one of my adventures, the first act you have to talk to the king who is on the top of the hill right in the frigggin front of you, and then I get noobs who score zero percent on the misssion, downrate it, and leave comments like "durrrr, what r u supposed 2 doo?"

I haven't published my first adventure yet - still finding glitches - but I did publish a couple of template planets and had to laugh when they were downrated (they are only templates after all) - now I am curious - where do people leave the comments? Is it possible to do from the quick play menu? For myself, I have not downrated any planets except one - it was in the "template" section (I was looking for a planet to make my adventure on and thought I'd try one somebody else made) but it was a shoot and kill 'em adventure that had me running back and forth for 10 minutes before finally getting to an epic with a health score of 8,000 - my health at 200, no crew and no health reginerators. I felt that even with my lack of skill at most of the adventures, this one was un-winable (and so far nobody has been on the leaderboard for it so I guess it is) - but for the others that I can't win, I just figure it's me and there is no point in rating it until I can get my skill level up. Now I have given a few thumbs up for adventures that challenged me but I still won (low points, but golly gee - just my speed) - I guess as it was said before - there are many skill levels - if I ever do finish my adventure, in spite of working on it since the game first came out, I do not expect very high ratings - I'm actually designing it for those of us players who aren't very skilled - so experienced players will find it very boring I am sure. I do plan to put a disclaimer on it - like you did - but I imagine it will still get poor ratings...

This brings up a good point. Maxis has made the rating "thumbs" more accessible than ever with adventures. You don't have to go online, it pops up as soon as you are done playing one. But to leave comments requires one to go to the Sporepedia or Spore.com. Because it is out of sight, it is out of mind. People may have wanted to leave a comment, but forgot after playing more missions. Now we are seeing a bombardment of downrating without any explanations as to WHY...

Hopefully time will make this better, but Maxis could do their part...
