I actually agree with this. Sadly, Maxis has been outdone by dozens and dozens of creators who put labor into their creations. And really to be honest, it doesn't look like Maxis creators put any real thought into their creations at all. Just slapped them together from random parts.

I think a more helpful suggestion would be that Maxis release a patch which allows you to delete their creations PROVIDED you have enough other creations downloaded that fit the specs / stats those creatures take up. I mean, you can't just go and ban Maxis creations from the beginning for instance, especially if you're not connected to the internet through the game. The original creations in the game are clearly set up so that you get easy nests near your early nest, and progressively harder to deal with (read: more complex) creatures as you go along to your second and third nests. The game can obviously select the right level creature from others' creations as well, since I have seen plenty of others' creations in my games.

I know that they're trying to make sure that you don't break your game by deleting the original creations, or make it unnecessarily hard on yourself, but it COULD simply be written in a manner, where it will allow you to ban Maxis creations IF and ONLY IF you have the right level and number of creatures to take up that stat. It would be quite nice. In the meantime, a good thing to do is flood your game with a wide variety of creatures you like, which have a variety of statistics. Like, don't just download all the really cool creatures which are practically on the verge of evolving to the tribal stage. Find some nice ones for earlier on. The more varied content you download and create, the less Maxis creations show up. None of my space races are Maxis created at all so far, with the exception of the Grox.

Let's also remember that Maxis' goal was to create a variety of creatures that possess varying levels of different skills, so that your entire time spent in the creature phase wasn't losing to someone's uber-creative, mega-bedazzled creature. The core bestiary is there to provide simple inspiration and balanced gameplay. And some of them, in my opinion, are very clever. And again, these creatures come packed with the game. Everyone who owns Spore has those creatures in their galaxy. That would have to be a much higher strain on the comment servers, juggling the huge numbers of comments that would plague each and every one.

Seeing all of the whiners, ranters, and flamers in the Feedback section I can see why Maxis doesn't want the Spore community commenting on their creations as it would be "waaaaah you ripped us off" "waaaaaah no aquatic stage"

Mediocre? They're wonderful! the captains are the only creations that can use a little work. Besides, they make the best flora!

I do know that will wright and maxis cactus have their own accounts, MaxisCactus's account name remains the same, and will's account name is MaxisWill. They're probably the closest you'd ever get to directly commenting on Maxis creations. I'm not so sure if the others have accounts as well.

There are a bunch of developers with accounts. Search for "Maxis". Also look at the names in the posts and also on the new adventures.

But I'm guessing a lot of the developers who's work I like may be gone, once the product was shrink wrapped.

I like some of the creatures very, very much. There is some quality animation there (that we don't get) and there is some wonderful sculpting going on.

I don't understand some of the people who think the creatures were "just slapped together". I don't really see that at all. I see some styles I don't like, and some I do.

Some of the people who THINK their creations are so much better than Maxis need to take a hard, critical look at their work. Most of Maxis' creations have a sort of whimsy to them. I have a special fondness for Bugay, Duke and my favorite of all Doltasaur!
