I"m passing along the Old File error problem for investigation, along with the issue that others are having where Spore prompts them to reinstall the patch even when they have successfully upgraded.

Thank you.

I will inform you all if reinstallation solves the issue.

A friend of mine told me that they have re-installed Spore from their CD and the patch works. However, I have installed Spore on my main desktop and my laptop, thus leaving me with only being able to update one of my systems because I only have one of my 3 installs left.

You can imagine my quandary.

Got a problem:
After installing it says: Missing old files that need to be patched (or something, I got Dutch version)
Then it didnt patch.

It seems to install the files on C:\, my Spore is on J:\ (my games section)

Can't seem to solve this? :s

It will trickle down to all the file hosting sites, you can now get it at File Shack

Here.

Sorry for the size.

Chris Hecker and Alex Hutchinson, neither of you have any idea what hardcore gamers want. Certainly not this piece of crap that is Sboring. So, just stfu about Spore being attractive to power/hardcore gamers.

What operating systems are people on who get the Old File error?

I an some other people have a problem with installing the patch as well, a different one than mentioned here tho'.

Every time I'm trying to instal the patch I get a message just after the unpacking (I guess) bar fills up that "No space on disc -- to install the update you need 1021381894 B of free space". The thing is... I have Spore installed on E: and it has over 80GB of free space, C: has 2.74GB free space. I have no paging files for virtual memory set on those drives.

Any thoughts and suggestions on what to try next?

Madjack: haha nice to see you on another thread

I guess I'm going to try reinstalling Spore.

I've been getting the same problem.

I'm on Windows XP.

Tried installing manually from recommended directory location. Failed with same error.

I was about to try deleting it and re-downloading... but no one seems to have reported success with that yet.

Please know I am a volunteer and not an employee of Maxis or EA. I do distinctly recall that when the Creature Creator patch came out that the CC HAD to be installed in the default path for installation or the CC would not patch. I am wondering if, for some reason, Spore is having the same difficulty. If you are willing and able I would like to know if an uninstall / reinstall resolves this for anyone.

Would we be provided an extra install in this case?

To my knowledge DRM limits are still in effect. Thus my request only for those willing and able. If you exceed the three limit you will still need to contact EA either by phone (see last page of manual) or at http://easpore.custhelp.com to request additional installations.

So you know, I'm on Vista Home Premium x64 and Spore is installed in its default directory. Since, I'm sure, other people are already trying the uninstall/reinstall, I'll wait for feedback on that before throwing myself into it.
