Thank you for the speedy patch to address some people's major issues. Nice to see this type of community support.

Now I'll have to redo tribal and civ again to see how much tougher it is.

I just installed this game onto my pc this past weekend Saturday and have not been promoted via EADM for the new patch. Was this automatically installed when I first installed the game, or will I just have to download the file directly from spore.com?

It's great to see some of the greatest complaints be addressed. There's lots that we have been dissapointed with, but much of that requires comprehensive change. This patch has come swiftly and does what an initial patch should.

Kudos, Bravo, etc. to the patch devs!

wtf how i am gonna get it? the glitch i have causes the game to crash on start up.

HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO FIX MY PROBLEM IF I GOTTA BE LOGGED INTO THE GAME WHICH CRASHES WHEN I START IT UP?!

Much thanks for addressing several prickly issues so quickly.

1) Is there information that can be made public regarding the next patch (ie. when and what fixes)?
2) Will a standalone .exe install be made available for those of us who don't want to use the EADM?

Two things:

1) What exactly were you expecting? It's an early patch. I'd rather wait and have stuff done right than have it rushed out the door before it's done.

2) What in the world does a monthly fee have to do with uber patches? There are plenty of game companies out there that release uber patches at no additional fee just because you bought the original game from them, they want your goodwill, and they may be expanding things in the future. You have every right to demand Maxis and EA add some new complementary parts to the creators, graphical improvements, and maybe even an additional stage at no extra charge. You just can't expect that stuff to come out instantly. This has been shown to be in the company's best interest because, although it costs money to develop free add-on content, it raises customer retention and increases expected sales of future expansions or titles. You're a PC gamer here -- don't get pulled into the XBox rut of paying for everything under the sun.

next up.... the Freedom cheat and letting us upload creations and use them in-game.


looking at the filesizes of a couple of my stuff made with the freedom cheat activated shows the file is only 0.3kb bigger.

that's not that big of a difference at all.

this is the start of a beautiful stream. thanks for this update. fixed all the major stuff.

Wonderful. It's still downloading, but I am glad to see that the first patch includes some new content as well. Glad to see Maxis is adding new content with subsequent patches instead of keeping them all for expansions!

Adding the great inspection feature to the creators, but requiring you to press a key is an issue. Is there a hint on the screen somewhere to remind us to hit (i)? Wouldn't it be better for the stats to just automatically show when you mouseover without hitting a key? The stats could show at the bottom of the screen, on the upper-right stat area, or somewhere that does not block your view.

Another major complaint that is easily addressed is the lack of 'prefab' space colony layouts and building choices. I imagine this would be easy to fix with a patch. As stated in another thread, one player had several new colonies he had just started. His math showed around 300 buildings he had to personally place in order to prepare them all.

So this is a two part suggestion but easily dealt with and high on the complaint list.

1. Allow us to set the three building choices we want for all new colonies. We can change them at will, but the beginning choices are made for us. Perhaps simply use the building choices we have on our homeplanet as the default.

2. Allow us to set layout templates for building placement, based on T1, T2, and T3. A more elaborate patch would give us more category choices such as 'happy', 'industrious', 'high defense', etc.

The third and final would be better handling of planetary defense. It's been said that your turrets and uber turrets only assist in defense when you fly to the planet personally. If your planet is well defended, you should not be required to fly back to defend it.

Associated with this point, also your warning notice of attack should actually state who is attacking the planet!!! All my warnings say 'an unknown force'. I assume this is because this part was not fully coded by the release date. Knowing wether it's my 5-star enemy or pirates will make a big difference on wether I fly back to help or not. (Note this is not about pirates plundering. You get 'they are trying to destroy your civilization' messages from pirate attacks too.)
