but it's $50!!! why? I would love it if someone, preferably a developer, would let me know the reason why.

stay cool!

if you got like 10 of these things for 50$(with the option of getting 10 different ones, instead of 10 that are all the same) i might buy em. but 50$ for one sculpture? if by 50$ you mean 50 yen(50 yen would be like a nickel), ok!

Mine just arrived today, and I'm happy with the results! (I'll post pics as soon as I upload them) I knew going into this that it would be somewhat grainy, as rapid prototypers still don't have extremely high resolution. I did make a creature just so it could be sculpted, as most of my creations have too much fine detail to be done at the scale Zcorp uses as the default. (you could conceivably do a custom scale for a larger specimen, the machine can go a good deal larger, but I'm sure I couldn't even think of affording the cost for that) If you are considering getting one done, make sure the creation is a tall as possible, that way you get the most out of your money.

Ok, here's a couple of pics of the sculpture:

(sporepedia card is clicky)

I think they did a great job with the creature, even with the grainy texture.

I've been thinking about getting a hugmonster model, but it would just be creepy having him in a physical form

Use with caution:

Oldish.

If you want a sculpture, check out some of the custom work done by the artists who are at the various cons. Search for custom pokemon sculpture, or custom wow sculpture, and that will get you a start.

There are as many different styles as artists, though, and most of the time you will find their own style is going to show in your creation, which my not be what you want at all. On the other hand, you have the option of making thigs a little different (like bigger wings than Spore allows).

Prices for small models will vary anywhere from $50 and up. I used to do some work in silver, mostly dogs and other canids, and just the wax from me ran over $100, and my models were very small.

If you want a "true" copy of your creature, and it is balanced correctly and not too fragile, I think the printed version is a great value for the price. I mean, the ones I've seen were mosty good, provided you used a saturated color and followed the rules.
