Spore constantly freezing and having to reboot system, hoping that I saved the game prior. Found out that spore doesn't like having the SLI activated on my 2 8800 GTS. After updating the drivers and de-activating the SLI, only using one card. I have not had a single freeze or crash. I don't know why this was happening or why the problem is the SLI.....but it worked. Not that I need the second card to run this game anyways.

jinkajobe wrote:Having an odd crash with Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit edition. So far I have thoroughly enjoyed the game. Space stage is awesome, except for this crash. Here's what happens: I go around in space just fine, then an alien attacks my colony/home world at the same time, no biggie. I always fight the aliens on the colony first and have no problem, I then proceed to my home world and successfully fight off the attackers there. The major problem is that so far 9.5/10 if I collect any of the fallen loot/repair any of my cities then it prevents me from being able to leave my planet. I don't know what happens, but it just sits there stuck with the spore busy symbol. I can then alt-tab back to the desktop, then back to Spore which allows me to fly back down on the planet, however after flying around a bit and then trying to re-exit, the same thing happens. Ultimately I have to exit the game without saving (since you have to be off the planets surface to do so), and loose any awesome work I had previously accomplished. This error only happens when trying to leave the home world as well, never when I leave a colony, or another race. Anyone running into a similar experience?

Nearly identical crash here, Home colony and another colony get attacked simultaneously, I defend the home colony but lose the other colony. After picking up loot and repairing cities as soon as I try to exit the world and before I can save, slight difference here, on my machine it goes to a black screen, minimizes to windows mode and a message pops up about an error, after searching the internet a message says an error caused the program to stop working correctly, then when I close that message it closes spore. This has been repeated about 10 times so far.

Ok, I fairly liked the game despite it being far less than promised all those years ago. Untill the space phase when it started freezing my computer. (athlon 64 6800 x2, nvidia asus a8n sli mb with on-board realtek sound, 1 nvidia 6800gs vid card, 2gb ram, winXP sp2)

has run all games fine till spore, so guess where the prob lies.

I updated every driver I could, I suspected it was not liking my sound drivers which were provided by nvidia and I found newer ones on the realtek website. I thought I had fixed it but it only seemed to postpone it longer, getting further into the game and it crashes every 10 mins now requiring a hard reset.

unplayable. also pretty un-enjoyable anyway fighting ufos 24/7.

whens the patch?

vastin wrote:I have suffered a number of different kinds of lockups so far, but by far the most common one is to simply have my graphics freeze - the game is clearly still running in the background, as I can save and sometimes perform other actions blindly, as the sound and cursor remain responsive. This happens roughly once every 1/2 hour on average and is unrecoverable - I have to shut the game down and restart it.

This happens most frequently when opening a diplomacy dialog when my ship is over the surface of a planet - but it can(and does) happen at almost any time, in any phase of the game except the cell phase, where I have never seen it happen.

My system meets or exceeds all the specs pretty well, and the game's general performance is otherwise good.

- Microsoft Windows XP, Home Edition, Version 2002, SP2
- Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.2GHz, 1GB Ram
- ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT (Latest drivers - 8/20)
- DirectX10 fully up to date

It looks like some kind of video card or driver incompatibility issue, but I can't say for certain.

I have almost the same problem. The UI is there, but space is black - without stars, or empire paths, or anything. What's worse, is that after I gave up trying to play that space game, and started another game, I found out that - no matter what - in space stage everything is black except the UI and when zoomed in on a planet.

It happened while I was in the middle of attacking a planet, and they surrendered, but in the frenzy of clicking around destroying stuff, I clicked the dialog box accept(or whatever) and the screen went black.
Doesn't matter that I didn't save it. The screen is black, but only when exiting a planet. I can use +\- or the mousewheel to zoom into a planet, but only the planet i'm currently on.

I ran out of ideas.
No hardware issues. Everything else is peachy clean.

At a loss for words.

I was playing my game when it suddenly crashed (typical), so I just rebooted the game and just when it's about to load the Maxis screen it just crashes. Anyone know how i can fix this little problem?

I can't access the graphics or anything due to it crashing before it even starts

Intel Core2 Quad CPU @ 2.40Ghz

Ram 3.00GB

ATI Radeon HD 3800 series

I've been trying to make this work since yesterday.
Anyway, I have:

Windows Vista Home Premium
Presario V6000
958MB Ram
DirectX 10
2.0GB Processor
NVIDIA GeForce Go 1650
281 MB Memory

Made it through Cell Stage, whenever a menu came up or something I had to click came up, it froze. CTRL-ALT-DELETE all the time. When I got to Creature Stage, I made my Creature and then it crashed and took me to the desktop.

I don't know if I should download the 177.92 thing, it could ruin my whole computer. Should I do it?

Yes, driver updating can be undone. You can revert back to older drivers.

I strongly advise people who have Lap Tops to use the makers website for updates instead of ATI or Nvidia.
Lap Top graphics and drivers are often configured/tweaked by the company and using drivers that are not tweaked for mobile chips could cause more issues than it fixes.

For Pressario/Compaq users check the HP website.

Not strictly a 'crash' bug, but a blocker nonetheless:

Sometimes when you launch a piece of equipment to a planet's surface (such as a bio protector), it will 'miss' your target point and go flying off into the void. If this happens, you can NEVER leave the planet again, as it won't let you leave the atmosphere until the equipment deploys properly, which it never will. You must restart the game if this happens.

I'm not sure why it misses the ground, but I suspect it has to do with it accidentally trying to fire at one of your allied ships instead of at the ground. It certainly only seems to happen very often when I have allied ships with me.

I also encounter similar experience. Everything went well until this point when Grox attacked my home planet. I killed all of them and then built turrets in cities. When I finished and zoomed out, the game minimised to my desktop and a message popped up about an error. It happened three times. Being curious, I tried again: defeated Grox and zoomed out, but now without building turrets.. this time it worked fine. But that means I would not be able to build turrets forever in my home planet...

OSX on MacBook Pro
Intel Core Duo 1.83 Ghz
1.5 Gig RAM
ATI Radeon X1600, 128 MB

Hope Maxis or anyone can help here...

If you can revert to old drivers, how do you do it?
I just want to know this just incase anything goes wrong.
Remember, I was Windows Vista, so if you could find directions with Vista, I'd love you forever! :p

If you go to your laptop's site for updates, they usually are old. Some of those date back 2 years. The people who make your graphic cards have the newest stuff.
I tried it and it didn't help at all.

You can try the drivers from Nvidia/ATI if you want. What I was saying is its a good idea to check with the makers website first.
Often you will find Nvidia and ATI/AMD do not support a lot of the mobile chips.

To roll back drivers on just about any hardware go to Start>Control Panel>Harware and Sound>Device Manager. Scroll around and find the device, in this case video card/display adapter. Right click and click properties then drivers.
And a note. The 177 Nvidia drivers are Beta. I tried them to see what happens and Spore does not work so well with the 177 for me. Fuzzy textures and land that is water etc. I rolled back to the 175 and no problems.
