True it does seem a bit unbalanced in favor of United States politics. So I'll ask my question in a more international way. To what extent do people have a right to news coverage that is untainted by political bias or government interference? And to what extent should the opposition be allowed to voice their opinion?

In a society with free speech, there's no limit to how much an opposition party or anybody else can state their viewpoints. There's also no restrictions on your ability to access unbiased media. The problem, however, is the fact that there's a shortage of unbiased media, and even the media that has a reputation for being unbiased occasionally swings one way or another unintentionally. The problem is amplified even more by the fact that the most prolific and easily accessed news sources generally have some sort of bias associated with them.

The better question is, why is it so hard to find trustworthy sources and how do we make them more accessible?

Your arguement does have merit, the United states has specific laws regarding freedom of the press. (Which in fact has been altered by laws issued at later dates.) But entities like the United Kingdom, the EU, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Canada, India and most of the rest of the world have a media under the very close watch of the government. They routinely issue gag orders on the press of their respective countries. And they do not inform the public about what is being suppressed. Below is a chart measuring current Freedom of the press on Wikipedia. Notice that most democracies only manage light blue. And of course this is just freedoom of the press, not necessarily unbiased press

RED ,,,,,,,,,,,Very serious situation
Orange,,,,,, Difficult situation
Yellow ,,,,,,,Noticeable problems
Light Blue,, Satisfactory situation
Dark Blue ,,Good situation
Gray..........Not classified / No data

You would be speaking of:
Costa Rica has been known for its stable democracy in a region that has had some instability and for its highly educated workforce, most of whom speak English.[8] The country spends roughly 6.9% of its budget (2016) on education, compared to a global average of 4.4%.[8] Its economy, once heavily dependent on agriculture, has diversified to include sectors such as finance, corporate services for foreign companies, pharmaceuticals, and ecotourism. Many foreign companies (manufacturing and services) operate in Costa Rica's Free Trade Zones (FTZ) where they benefit from investment and tax incentives.

So I figured it might be a good idea to open a discussion about something that non-Americans can contribute to, given that most of this thread is just Trump gab.

What is everyone's view of your government's use of torture? Are there reasons for using torture on war criminals? What is and isn't acceptable torture

I'm fine with it. I don't mean to victim blame but if someone tells you they're going to hurt you until you talk it's kind of your fault for getting tortured.
