This reminds me of the time animal control sent me out on a tip to pick up a wolf chained to a garage. I ended up making friends with him after spending 45 minutes in the dark, in a driveway, lying on my back and making puppy sounds until he trusted me and didn't think I was a threat -- he was a VERY alpha wolf. I was lucky he was smart enough to not keep me there longer. He ended up as a long-timer at the wildlife station.

Yep, I expect working through this is going to be something like that
