Spore has just as many problems in XP as it has in Vista.

The only real difference is you'll need more raw computing power to run Vista smoothly and (if you are buying it) pay about three times as much for the OS, other than that there's no real benefit. Even MS themselves have fast-tracked Windows 7 because Vista is basically failing on the market and becoming a repeat of the Windows M.E. failure. It will continue to straggle along, but it's a terminal patient at this point.

Get Mojave, it's way better than Vista.

XP is a smooth running O/S. I never saw a need for an upgrade, but Microsoft must've needed more money. If you have a choice, go with XP. If you buy a bundled PC, well, enjoy the Vista.

Naw, get Mac OS X Leopard. It owns all.

Vista is epic fail. I have it. I still haven't even got notepad to save and it takes 2 tries to get a non corrupt paintfile. It's updater is default at "restart computer without asking" which really anoyed me.

Given the choice I would stick with XP. I have however had no problems with Vista which was bundled with a new PC.

Edit: If you have older hardware make sure those are compatible with Vista. Older Lexmark printers for instance have no vista drivers available.

vista stinks, but if you buy a laptop, guess what...it's going to have vista on it

I've learned to live with vista I suppose

hopefully Windows 7 will be better.

If you have a multi-core CPU and more than 3 GB of RAM, then you may actually see performance improvements in Vista due to its better implementation of multi-threading support in its core code. If you don't have those pieces of hardware, then XP is likely much quicker. I don't particularly like Vista, but I was quite shocked to find it booting up faster than XP on the same machine. I still maintain Vista is a bloated poorly-designed OS, but it does have some advantages over XP and likewise XP has advantages over Vista.

As far as gaming, I run Vista 64 bit and have had no problems with any games, surprisingly. The only exception being that buggy POS named Gears of War, but that's a game problem and not a Vista problem.

For everybody saying Vista sucks, yeah sure, it does if you don't have a good enough computer. My computer is 2 years old and Vista runs perfectly fine.

The only real difference in Vista is that it looks prettier than any other OS. If you wanna fork out loads of cash for a pretty cover, go ahead. If you don't really care, XP is for you.

I've noticed that ATI has gotten extremely lazy when programming new drivers in XP, and I was getting all kinds of junk and slowdown on my desktop. I have a new enough computer to be able to see the dubious "advantages" of Vista, and the new Vista ATI drivers are marginally better than their new XP ones, so I guess I'm running Vista for the time being.

However, please don't take that to mean that I endorse Vista over XP; XP was pretty close IMO to the perfect windows build, and if they had actually continued along that path instead of bloating up Windows ME and re-releasing it as Vista, Microsoft might have actually come out of all this with a decent OS.

In my opinion, Vista has the same problems as Spore itself, dumbed-down interface, snoopy DRM, lots of fluffy, pretty shapes but nothing for the user to actually do with them.

Actually, you can make XP look a lot like Vista. And it still runs better.
Why do you think they're pushing Windows 7 out the door so soon? It's what Vista was supposed to be.
